Delonte West reaches one-year deal to return to Mavericks

The chances of us seeing another “Wet Willy” in the NBA next season just went up.

The Dallas Mavericks have reached a one-year deal to bring back Delonte West, reports Marc Stein at ESPN. We don’t know the size of the deal yet (likely the veteran minimum), but being just one year it does not mess with the franchise’s plans to go after major free agent.

West played well for the Mavericks, averaging 9.6 points per game, until he suffered a broken finger — one so severe it required pins to set straight — that had him out for the rest of the season.

This was mutual, Dallas wanted him back and he wanted to return. But the landscape is different. Darren Collison and O.J. Mayo will be the starting backcourt and West will come off the bench, fighting for playing time with Rodrigue Beaubois and Dahntay Jones. But West will get minutes because of his play at both ends of the floor.
