Are the Heat frontrunners for Darko?

Jul 22, 2012, 7:00 PM EDT

Brendan Haywood, Darko Milicic AP

Our own Ira Winderman reports that with the Bulls opting to sign center Nazr Mohammed as their replacement for Omer Asik (likely on his way to Houston with the Bulls not matching his $25 million offer sheet), the Heat could be in position to form something great. Something tremendous. Something unexpected.

They could be forming a garbage-time-only, suit-wearing combo of Eddy Curry (provided they re-sign him) and Darko Milicic.

Get ready, South Florida.

We’ve already shared that Darko’s almost certainly headed to a contender. And the Heat have the most glaring need for help at the center position. Joel Anthony was a valued member of the rotation a year ago, but didn’t play hardly at all in the Conference Finals. That was mostly on account of matchups as neither the Celtics nor Thunder could handle the Heat’s smallball rotations. But it should be noted that many feel the Heat are still looking for an upgrade at center over Anthony and Turiaf.

Darko’s actually a quality center as long as he’s brought in for a small figure. He might be good enough to start. It would mean that the No.1, No.2, No.4. and No.5 picks from the 2003 draft would all be on the same team. Not sure, but have to think it’s probable that’s the first time that’s happened, ever. But they have to land him first. We’ll keep you updated on where the Serbian gangster lands.

Why the hell aren’t my comments showing up? When I visit the site on my phone I never see any of my comments and I know others don’t see them either since I don’t get any thumbs up\down…. am I blackballed?

    • crtzinc - Jul 22, 2012 at 8:30 PM

I have the same issue at times. It seems at times the comments show up only when I am logged in. I thought Kurt was deleting my messages because he does not want Dwight to go to the Lakers, hah.

get Darko and then trade for Carmelo to assemble the top 5 picks

    PG- Lebron

    Championship! XD

The Heat did have the 1992’s draft pick #1 Shaquille O’Neal, #2 Alonzo Mourning, and #3 Christian Laettner playing for them in the same year back in 2005. Even #4 Jimmy Jackson played for them couple of years prior.

    • elComandanteenJefe - Jul 23, 2012 at 10:51 AM

WOW!!! Jimmy Jackson throwback! That was the team that was suppose to make some “NOISE” with Rod Strickland at the point, Eddie Jones at the two, Jimmy Jackson running the three, Brian Grant holding the fort as the power forward, and Alfonzo Mourning as their anchoring center. Unfortunately, this was the year after Mourning came back from his kidney transplant, Tim “This Away, That Away” Hardaway was traded for a second round pick prior to the season starting, Thuder Dan Marleje was headed into retirement, and it just snowballed from there.

Who will beat the heat next year in the playoffs, the world may never know lol

  6. isujames - Jul 22, 2012 at 9:50 PM

Yea, anybody 7 foot that can help clog up the middle, box out, and grab an occasional rebound.

  7. isujames - Jul 22, 2012 at 9:54 PM

certainly not the old ass flakers with or without howard, it barely worked with shaq and kobe, dwight and kobe won’t make it through the season.

Good players go to Minnesota to end their career….They are the Raiders of the nba.

      • phaden27 - Jul 23, 2012 at 11:17 AM

As a Raider lifer I’d like to point out our struggles come as a matter of Ownership, Coaching, and Injuries. Carson Palmer hasn’t been here long enough to earn the title “loser who came here to end his career.” Now this next season….

  10. skinsfanwill - Jul 22, 2012 at 10:42 PM

He is a great pickup for Miami. All he has to do block a few shots, defend a center or two, and be able to switch on defense while attempting to grab some rebounds. How hard can that be? Hell I’ll do that for million. And I won’t even ask to take a shot.

Before leaving a Darko joke, just remember he would be the Heat’s 11th man, maybe 12th.

Also, in 2004-2005, the Heat had the 1st 3 picks of the ’92 draft on their roster (O’Neal, Mourning, Laettner). Over the years 8 of the first 9 picks of the 92 draft played for the Heat and 9 of the first 12 played for them.

    • dlhouse18 - Jul 23, 2012 at 5:56 AM

You don’t want Darko on your team no matter what the role. He couldn’t handle the bench for the Wolves and he is such a big waste of talent. Biggest con man in the league and he is about to strike again. He’d be a bum on the streets if he wasn’t 7 foot because his work ethic is terrible.

  12. r0llinginthedeep - Jul 22, 2012 at 11:47 PM

“I’ve never seen a big man pass like him!”

  13. scoregasmic - Jul 23, 2012 at 12:46 AM

You think T-Wolves fans suffered with Darko? Try being a pistons fan and seeing they coulda had melo wade or bosh instead…it hurts every time I see it

    • southpaw77 - Jul 23, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Many praised Dumars for taking Darko, remember that?
These fools said they couldn’t use a Bosh or Wade since it would ruin their chemistry with Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Rasheed and Wallace.

What were those experts thinking? Because that set that teams future back 5 years and the luster of genuis Dumars have been proven to be a farce when he let Chauncey go also when he still had a few years left in the tank.

    “Darko’s actually a quality center”

  15. xjokerz - Jul 23, 2012 at 6:08 AM

I’m a pistons fan … Darko has more rings then Malone. Just saying

  16. canehouse - Jul 23, 2012 at 9:02 AM

    LET’S GO HEAT… 2012 NBA CHAMPS!!!!!

  17. jolink653 - Jul 23, 2012 at 9:59 AM

This guy could barely handle the towels on the Knicks bench in the short (but seemed like way too long) time he was on the roster…I guess when you’re 7 feet tall you don’t have to be very talented as long as you can grab a rebound once a week
