Appears Nets near deal for Nazr Mohammed

It was known the Nets had had serious conversations with center Nazr Mohammed, but apparently things are about to take the next step.

Mohammed tweeted this (via Chris Tommason of Fox Sports Florida, who says he is heading there to ink a deal)

Airplane mode to Newark… ✈✈✈

The deal likely will be for near the veteran minimum. Mohammed would come off the bench behind starter Brook Lopez and could provide some defense and few solid minutes at the five. But the 14-year veteran’s skills took a step back last season in Oklahoma City and we’ll see how much he has to give in Brooklyn.

Expect it to be official in the next few days.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the headline typo. It is like you type with a stutter or something.

Blegh. At this point, I’d have rather brought back Shelden Williams. Obviously nothing special, but I’d have more faith in him to rebound and defend the post a bit for fifteen minutes a game than Nazr.

Hmm I’m not sure that Mohammad will have much of an impact, especially after a weak showing last season
