I’m a Celtics fan and I’m with everyone else on this one.

If Rondo wants to be known as the best PG in the league, all he has to do is prove it.

I think he can. I hope he does. Thus far he hasn’t.

Well, now I guess we see why Allen went running like a bat out of hell. Wow, Rondo must have really chafed being in the shadow of the big three in the past. Now he’s coming out. He is a unique point guard, but his big games often do not carry the team. Best rebounding guard, perhaps; also, I think his head-to-head defense is not his best attribute. We’ll leave the verdict out on his spot-up jump shooting till next season.

Rondo has to be, if not the best, one of the best pg’s in the league, the way he runs the offense and rebound like no other player in his position has to be recognize, he still has to improve different aspects of his game (and his temperament), but he can just dominate a game without having to score over double digits.

@khadeemw Unless you win the cahmpionship wins in the playoffs mean nothing, just ask Lebron. Those are career stats that include playoffs. The only stat CP3 is losing in is Blocked shots. Dwill has even come off the bench in games, CP3 hasen’t. The number don’t lie, sorry

This guy is as tough as they come. I have absolutely no issues with his comments. I love the confidence and mental fortitude, Rondo displays and believe me, I’m not a Boston fan at all! Heat fan since the late 80′s; I just call it like I see it and the guy is a beast. Get a consistent mid-range jumper and that’s a scary sight

I’m a Lakers fan. I’ve been watching The Association for thirty years. When one considers the PG position from three criteria (running the offense, defending the other team’s PG, and team leadership), Rondo is the best PG I’ve seen since Magic Johnson and the best Celtics’ guard since Dennis Johnson. (And how I miss that guy!)

Without a doubt, Paul, Westbrook, and Williams can do things that Rondo cannot (or will not). Likewise, Parker is hell on wheels and if Rose can get and stay healthy and stay on the court, he will be as special on the court as he is off of it.

But given my pick today of any point or shooting guard to build a team around, I’d take Rondo.

Rondo is RIGHT!

All you clowns talk about his jumper. Chirs Paul has a jumper, where has that got him? Deron Williams has a jumper, where has that got him? Neither of those fools can play D or rebound Parker has a jumper, but even that developed with time and Parker can’t play D or rebound like Rondo.

I dont’ care what you say but Rose is not a PG, Westbrook is not a PG.

Rondo is a one-man fast break and a walking triple double. Can you imagine Rondo running the show with some young guns like OKC instead of Westbrook? OMG!

To be the best point guard in the league you need to be a leader. Rondo is not a leader on the celtics. Just look at his actions sometimes, like bumping into refs because you think a ref made a bad call. He has the potential to be the best but needs to show leadership.

Deron Williams backpacked Utah to the conference finals before. Chris Paul has never sniffed the conference finals. As far as missing the playoffs, people are acting like CP3 never missed the playoffs. And Deron Williams is 13-4 against CP3 for his career. Deron Williams made Memhet Okur and Carlos Boozer all-stars. Look what they have done without him. NOTHING. Deron Williams at the collegiate and professional level has shown himself to be a better point guard. Top 5 in the league:

D-Will
CP3
Westbrook
Rondo
Rose(Pending Recovery from ACL injury)

I’m surprised people continue to try to make this argument. Championships are won by teams, not individuals, so ring counts are marginally useful as a way of comparing individual players. Paul playing for the Celts during the past 5 years probably would have won a championship as well, and maybe 2 or 3. Even Williams probably would have won one. Your argument discredits all-time greats like John Stockton and means we should at least consider Chalmers as a peer to Rondo. I’m not buying it. As for the HOF question, I think consistently playing at his current level for at least 6 more years probably makes him a HOFer even if he never finds a consistent shooting stroke.

He is right there with the top 4-5 in the league. I would go C.Paul, D.Rose, Rondo, D.Williams, and then Westbrook.

Rondo is my favorite player in the NBA, but even I will say that I don’t think he is the best in the league. If he developed a steady jumper and more importantly converted more of his free throws, I honestly think he would be the best PG in the NBA with the only real competition being Chris Paul. The thing about Rondo’s scoring is that his role is not to be a scorer yet to distribute and create offense for others. Rondo doesn’t put up 20+ points a game, but the points he does put up he does at a pretty efficient rate for a PG, shooting 45% from the field last year, not amazing, but certainly not bad either. He isn’t asked to put up absurd amounts of points, but what he is asked to do he does better than anyone else in the NBA. He plays amazing defense, he rebounds better than almost every other PG in the league, and he is constantly the league leader or among the league leaders in assists while scoring a solid but not great 12 or so points a game at an efficient rate. He has the kind of ability to completely take over a game like very few players have. After last year, I would personally take him over any PG in the league outside of Chris Paul and Westbrook (Westbrook just based on his potential, that kid is a freak and already is elite). Rose’s game will never be the same after the ACL tear, D-Will, although he didn’t have a good cast, had a down year for him and wasn’t as efficient as you would hope. I honestly think he could be the best all-around PG in the league with a consistent outside shot and free throw stroke, which would open up his game so much in all aspects.

Did you just imply that Derrick Rose is a second tier point guard? How many MVP’s do Deron or CP3 have? Derrick Rose was injured last season. He didn’t die.
