I was just a pup when Kemp was playing, but he was my favorite player, you’re right about his last years being disappointing.

McGee has the chance to become a monster, if Karl and him jive well together, good things should happen. The great game he had against the Lakers in the playoffs was a great sign of what he’s capable of. McGee was stuck in a bad situation in Washington, the Nuggets have a good organization. They’ve drafted well (Lawson and Faried) and make good trades, they cleaned the Knicks out for Melo.

I like the Shawn Kemp reference, minus the last few years of his career , hopefully he never becomes the overwhelming fat Kemp. He’s, got so much potential and I hope he can put It together

Nuggets fan here. It’s a scary deal, but such is life in most NBA cities. Better him than Brook Lopez, at least. I don’t think McGee’s a bad guy. More like a giant, overgrown puppy, tripping over his own feet– enthusiastic, but dumb. Or at least immature. If the kid ever gets his head out of the clouds and figures out how to bring it consistently every night, he could be a terror. I do think GK and the Nugs staff can get some more focus out of him. At the end of the day, though, I’m afraid he just doesn’t have that type of intensity to his personality. Obviously you can’t measure another man’s heart, but he doesn’t exhibit much competitive fire or aggression– I suspect he lacks the drive to be much more than a solid contributor. We’ll see. As deep as the team runs right now, I’d say there’s a good chance some of these parts get moved in the next year or two.

George Karl had the same situation with Shawn Kemp, freak athlete with size. McGee should benefit from Karl’s coaching, in Karl I trust.

This guy has super athletic ability with a peanut brain. Hope Karl gets him on track because he could be scary good. Doubt it will happen though, you can’t fix stupid.

This kid has potential, as shown in the series against the Lakers. We shall see if he ever realizes it
