One consideration that I haven't seen anyone discuss yet - now that Mike D'Antoni is gone, perhaps an intelligent guy like Lin realizes that a team full of me-first knuckleheads like Melo, Amare & JR Smith is not the best place to pursue a career as a winning basketball player....He'll lose some marketing exposure for sure, but I 'm pretty sure that he'll do just fine with the new contract, as he doesn't seem like the type of guy to blow it all on bling and entourages.

Now we can go back to those laughable Knicks we all know and love.....please explain to me again how Ray Felton, a point guard who is continuously traded by teams desperately needing point guards, is going to become the next Frazier.....

Granted JR is who he is. I wouldnt be happy having him date my daughter, OK? But he gave his all to his team during the playoffs. Mr. Lin decided that he couldnt play because he was only, in his words, 85%. WTF?! How many players played during the playoffs with various injuries. Look at the champs. They had TWO players who had injuries equal to or greater than Mr Lins.

Cant you understand the resentment of a guy who chose to put his contract issues ahead of the team, DURING THE PLAYOFFS?!! He went Hollywood on his team mates at the wrong time.

JR is the crazy one: not too much sponsorship money to lose. But you can be sure that there are several players on that team that feel the same way.

I get your point, but regardless if its right or not it isn't Lin's fault that his race/family history make him a compelling story for a large segment of the planet.

If JR Smith wants to make things better and help create a post-racial world, maybe he should have shown up for more practices on the Chinese team he agreed to play on, instead of going on shopping trips. Maybe he could have respected the culture more and reached out to fans to foster cross culture support. Or, you know, he could do none of those things and then blame the Asian guy for accepting a contract that he would have signed in a second. I mean, going back to your point, how does JR Smith's conduct or comments help address this perceived problem?

You do understand that neither said they would be mad right? Trust me, if anyone understands the business side of the NBA it is Melo who pretty much traded himself to NY.

What they both said is 100% accurate. Most players would be upset that Lin gets a huge deal after 35 games ONLY and it is a ridiculous contract to offer him $14M in year 3 (especially since the tax and contract in that 3rd year would have the Knicks pay close to $30M).

Do you not see the problem with that?

freaking out!?!? Really LOL...who is freaking out? This is the business side of basketball and most REAL fans understand that. Would I have liked to have had Lin back? Absolutely but for what the Rockets are giving him it is not worth the risk. Felton and Kidd are more seasoned vets and more capable of handling the PG role for the Knicks.

The problem with people like you is that you just like to instagate crap online. Which to me is funny in itself. You spend more time "trash' talking on here then anything else which I guess at your age is the "cool" thing to do.

So exactly where does the racism start? Is it right that league needs a Chinese face to help market their product in Asia? Kevin Durant is a nice, well spoken, young man who loves his mama, and has CRAZY basketball skills. Why is he, and others like him, not good enough? Why cant people just see Kevin Durant as a basketball player, not a black basketball player?

When you can answer that, then you might have a better insight as to why there is resentment.

This is racism pure and simple. These guys have no problem with a balck player gets a bad contract but when an Asian guy is offered the same thing, it's "ridiculous and bad for the locker room"?

Please! Stop hating on the man already.

The truth is, Jeremy Lin is only gonna see the first two years of that contract come to fruition.

He will almost certainly be an amnesty casualty after that second year.

Read before you speak. Just because his contract averages out to about 8 million a year doesn't mean anything.

His contract is back-loaded which means regardless of what he makes in the first two years, he's going to make almost 15 million in the third year which is a ridiculous amount for a turnover machine like Lin. That's in addition to Carmelo and Amare's contract really getting bad by then too.

If you were starting a team anyone who would consider paying Lin 15 million a year any given year at this point in his career is crazy. Not to mention when you have Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd on the roster.

How bout you do some reading instead of just trying to troll on the internet.

Consider the source. Mr. Saturday Morning Cartoons Tattoo poster boy. J.R. is just hating because his sister's got the Bruce Lee put on them girl style in the stands when he found a job (where?), oh, in China! Quit hating J.R., and earn you a decent contract, as if you could put together 2 weeks of consistent play in a season. Do recall as well that young Jeremy stayed in school. Houston knows his marketing potential better than any other team in the league having selected Yao Ming previously. Quit Hating!
