At age 38, Marcus Camby still brings some things to the table — height (6’11”), shot blocking, a deadly pick-and-pop midrange jumper. All things coveted by some contenders.

So that’s who he is meeting with, tweets Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:

Rockets center Marcus Camby to meet with Heat on Saturday, source said. Knicks next. Rockets unlikely, and not until after Asik decision.

Camby reportedly wants to play for a contender and wants to get paid — he wants at least the mini mid-level exception of $3 million, not a veteran’s minimum deal. Which means while the Heat are interested and meeting with him they cannot make that offer until after Ray Allen makes his decision. If Allen chooses Miami the Heat may still try to put together a sign-and-trade with the Rockets, reports Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports Florida.

The Knicks also are shopping their MLE around. Dallas and San Antonio also both have intereest in Camby

For both teams Camby would be a good fit as a big off the bench who could provide quality minutes at both ends. He’s just solid and his game ages well. It’s all going to come down to money. Like always.

The Knicks should get him and put him in their Geriatric section alongside Jason Kidd.

The Celtics need to go after Camby to finally have a legit Center and Rebounder

I’m slightly willing to wait on Ray Allen. If Marcus Camby tries any of that “I’m conflicted” garbage, just go to NY.

A deadly pick and pop midrange jumper? Just cuz he has a tornado windup doesn’t mean it’s a deadly shot. Lol

if he wants a ring its the heat…NY isnt a threat for a title

Camby would make about the same $$$ taking the veteran’s minimum with the Heat as he would taking the mini-mid level from the Knicks because of no state taxes. And he’d have the opportunity to start in Miami where as he’d have to come off the bench in NY and LA. Prediction: He signs with Miami for the veteran’s minimum.

People don’t realize how much having no state taxes in Florida helps the Heat in free agency…

Clue: They don’t play the same position.

This is setting up perfect for San Antonio actually.

Miami only has enough for minimum, he wouldn’t start on the Knicks, and Dallas is no longer looking like a contender.

Just hope they can split their MLE and retain Diaw too.
