Bynum signs with Lakers. Howard signs with Magic. They are traded for each other, with various other overblown contracts thrown in on both sides for cap relief.

Magic get a young, good all-around center to build around. Lakers get a defensive monster in the middle which allows Gasol to become offensively relevant again. Only thing left for Kupchak to figure out is where to find a good, young 3 who doesn't go off the farm every month or so.

You mean after all those huge contracts come off the books? They'll do the same thing they've been doing for 30 years now: Reload and piss off you L.A. haters yet again. Every few years the Lakers pull off another monster trade or signing. They often use draft picks as trade bait (they just aren't that big a deal when you're consistently picking at the end of the round) but when they do use them it's for players like Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, Norm Nixon, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Derek Fisher. Oh, yeah, and lately some big geek named Andrew Bynum.

Trades? FA signings? Kobe Bryant leads a long, long list, which includes the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, Robert Horry, et.al.

Don't worry about where the Lakers will be in three, four, five years. Most likely they'll have another ring (or two) and will be about to blow your mind with yet another titanic deal for a franchise player.

Oh, and the Thunder already whooped their tails last year.

Um, there are probably 29 other teams that didn't get that memo. Out of those 29 at least 10 of them would beg to differ, and most likely throw a wrench into that 2013 celebration.

It would be one thing if they dominated OKC in every game but the fact that the games were usually decided by fewer than 7 points when all of your 3 headed monster played at their best and OKC rarely had anyone besides Durant and Westbrook show up...

Lakers, Spurs, OKC, Clippers, Celtics, Pacers, Nets, Sixers all may test Miami in a full regular season...

You just plug in Miami to the finals like it ain't not thing.
Awfully assumptive for a team that brought to the edge of the abyss by a team full Old veterans in Boston.

In fact, most people believe Boston beat Miami in 4 straight, since Stern wanted Miami to win game 2, as they did.

mjami's hold on the east will is tenuous at best and will ultimately be temporary.
have a nice weekend

absolutely right. its a huge upgrade for our LAKERS! isn't it funny to hear all the haters now claim that Nash sucks and is too old, blah, blah, etc? yeah...the guy's PER (which i'm personally not a huge fan of) is above average and he lead the league in assist recently. the guy has a lot of tread. what he will do is create tons of offense. Defense? ya know, i'm okay with teams going to the jumpshot because with Gasol and Bynum in the paint, no way they dominate inside.

Hey Bozo, by your logic that use use to criticize the Celtics you should hate this trade. Nash is 38 years old, even older than the Celtics Big 3 which you consider well past retirement age.

After typing this I realized you're an incredible hypocrite so why even wate my time.

Lol.....you think Kobe is giving up his alpha dog role? Again, the way it works is if Nash and Kobe DON'T play off each other.
The Laker bigs though should be very happy w/Nash on board

Look at Nash's personal comments: he wants to stay on the Left Coast.

That means he is going to play his life time best, as this is his last chance for a ring . . . he's not going anywhere else ever, nor is Kobe.

Want to double down on that backcourt?

Lem.. your comment is deficient in the area of intelligence !!!

1. They would have to beat the Thunder to have the honor to play MIA, in a finals competition

2. Miami beat the Thunder 4 games strait

3. Have you ever watched a bball game

no need to respond, it's really not a question !

Maggott Fly....ahahaha

Dude, you are about to stroke out ! The fact remains:

1. Your defense has suffered the past 2 years, as evidenced by getting ran outta the gym by Dallas and beaten like a drum by the Thunder.

2. CP3, Parker and Westbrook will go for 30+ EVERY NIGHT against Nash. They probably can't sleep, thinking about what new cross-over moves they are gonna put on dude. ahahahaa

3. The same complaints lakers had about D-Fish, not being able to stay in-front of anyone, is the same complaint you have now.

Maggott, after your last outburst you are gonna need stronger Bi-Polar meds by the All-Star break, when you realize...."YOUR TEAM " has ZERO chance of winning.....ahahahaha

I'm sorry, but the guy IS a top 10 point guard of all-time. He's been to multiple Conference Finals (which isn't too shabby) and won two MVPs (and should've won a third). How a two-time MVP isn't considered one of the greatest point guards of all-time is seriously amiss. On top of that, the guy has made everyone around him better...a lot better.

That being said, there is the defensive concern, the age, his health, and lack of Laker bench that all make things a little dicier than some people think.

In fairness - and I agree age could be a major factor - Nash's defense is less of a concern with Bynum and Gasol waiting in the paint. But still, it's been the Lakers' achilles heel for years now: penetration by quick and athletic point guards. That need hasn't been corrected, but their offense just got a whole lot better.

In addition to the concern about Nash's back holding up, still no bench and virtually no money left to sign anyone. I sort of have a 2004 feeling when the Lakers signed Payton and Malone and we were talking 70 wins and a guaranteed ring. Nothing is guaranteed until it's done on the floor.
