No, the Magic are not in a beggars position. While it is true Dwight is talented, he’s also a douche bag, with a lot of instability, and he’ll bring that to a city near you if you want him to.

I’ve sat here in Orlando and watched dipsh-t not develop any form of offensive game. Yes, he gets boards, block shots etc. but the head aches are not worth it. People keep saying that he took them straight to the NBA finals right out of the gates, but don’t forget that while Howard was averaging 20 points a game, Rashard was averaging 17, Hedo was averaging 16.9 per game, Jameer 16.7, Courtney Lee was a rookie just under 9 points a game, Skip to My Lou 11 and some change…that was extremely balanced scoring. Don’t forget Hedo got the most improved player award that year also.

THAT was a team that would spread the ball and the stats show it…it wasn’t the Dwight Howard show, so lets not forget about that, and lets not make Dwight Howard any better than what he really is…defensive beast, grabs boards, and while that’s great..the head ache that comes along with it…not so great.

Orlando would benefit more from sitting Dwight Howard for the entire year. If they cannot legally keep his @ss out of the locker room, the training facility and Amway, I’d just put him on the DNP list every single day of the season. They can collect a lottery pick, and at the very least they can hold onto his rights all year long and let him get out of shape, trade him at the trade deadline to some team that isn’t going to make the playoffs and call it good…or just sit on his rights all year long and burn him the same way he’s burning Orlando…

The Magic do NOT have to do anything with this guy…swallow their pride, swallow their losses and sit on his contract. Prove that the players are not in control.

Can Orlando send him to China for, oh I don’t know, for 10-20 million. I wonder if the CBA makes it impossible to get players traded to other leagues…it works in baseball…wonder if it will work in basketball.

If I were the DeVoss family, I would just sit on this player and put him on the inactive roster, lock him out from the arena, the practice facility etc. So you lost your star, you aren’t going to get much from his “one and only team of choice”. And because he is trying to hurt your organization, I say you return the favor. Sit him out for the ENTIRE year, you will suck it up get a lottery pick and go from there. It’s not like Orlando is a budding franchise, you’ve got huge contracts on the books and cannot rebuild immediately anyways.

Orlando just needs to tell this dude to go home, stay home, and enjoy free agency next summer. He can take the year off to learn how to develop some post moves.

The flip-side is that he’s selfishly holding an entire organization hostage because no one, not even the Nets, will offer anything of value to the Magic, knowing the Magic are in a no-win situation. If I’m any other team but the Magic, all I offer are pieces I want to get rid of to clear space for the future AND I’d insist the Magic pay a portion of this year’s contract too. The Magic are in the beggar’s position: they have to take whatever gets offered or bite the bullet, use him for one more season as best they can, and start from scratch.

This builds an argument for NEVER offering any athlete anything more than a one-year contract with an extremely low base salary, and have everything be incentive-based if they want to make serious money. Because if Howard stays in Orlando, he sleepwalks through the season to protect his body for his next employer. Guaranteed that this year’s stats will be his lowest/worst ever.

This is a bad story for the league, Stern should step in and help make something happen. He cant stay in Orlando any longer, these stories will be terrible all season long.
