There is a hard cap provision in the new CBA. It does not apply to the Lakers.

But for the record, if you use an exception (mid-level, whatever) to become a tax payer you impose a one-season hard cap on yourself at $74 million.

SOOOOooooo Maggot....If a player like Pau can elevate a team like Houston (your words) why can't he continue to elevate the lakers !!!

Could it be because he plays along side a friggin ball hawk, that NEVER comprehended the FUNDAMENTALS of the game...like pass it to the wide open 7 foot dude !

The lakers can make all the trades they want ! Until they change the philosophy and get the ball outta the Harlem Globetrotters hands....I will enjoy seeing them walk off the court with their tails between their legs.....ahahahahaha !

I agree you are drunk !

I also agree....keep kobe as long as he can play. That just means your team will not be getting better, during that period ! Which works GREAT for 80% of all bball fans that dispise the Yankee approach they have historically employed, which is out spend everybody to BUY A CHIP !

Now that the playing field has been leveled and it will be harder to PURCHASE CHIPS...Ya'll gonna get ran outta the gym, like you did last year agains the Mavs and the early exit this year....ahahahaha

But by all means and to the demise of the team and organization...keep the fake- Wanna-Be-Like-Mike Dude....ahahaha

There are between 50-70 of them that troll this site. So, we both will get thumbed down....they do that as if it really means the facts are not real.....ahahahaha

My team is irrelevant. But suffice it to say, they have a handful of titles in the last 30 years. If I name any team, I will be labled a hater, which is simply not the case. I don't hate teams, I detest ignorant fans of said teams.
Again, you are talking about history? How do you make it through a day being this dumb, honestly?
This cba has teeth to it. Player movement is going to be more restricted than ever. The money lost by moving in fa is not worth it. As seen with the horrible Paul trade to the Lakers, Stern is nit allowing crap like that to go on. It's detrimental to the league. The parameters have changed. How do you not get that?
Sterns goal is to have a star on every team. He's actually said that. Parity has come to the NBA, you need to understand that.
You keep harping about the last 30 years.
Things have changed, rules have changed. You aren't getting anything of greater value for Gasol. The idea that you'd get 3 1st rounders is laughable.
He's 32, his salary is astronomical. It's nit feasible. You're team is going to have to take a crap contract back in return. You're team is at the salary cap. Your bench sucks. Yet Buss and Kupchak are going to pull off a mega deal because the team always had in the past, w/ o any of the restrictions that are in place now?
You're being foolish.
Agree to disagree? I think not. You are being a willfully ignorant homer about this and you aren't facing the realities of today's NBA. I'm positive the Lakers go to battle with about the same talent level, more likely a little worse from last year.
Kobes stupid contract has them hand cuffed. Knowing that a cba fight was coming, that was a horrid contract to hand out. Just plain dumb. They are paying for it now. Kobe stalls out at 5 rings.

well...we will agree to disagree. like i said, the new CBA is just the latest reason i hear the Lakers will become mediocre. I just don't think so. I've been watching basketball for a long time and if you have been as well, you would know certain franchises have an inherent quality that makes them rise above the others. the Lakers have that.

If going to 15 Finals the past 30 years means spoiled and delusional...HA! yeah, man...I'll take it. BTW, how has your team fared the past 30 years?

oh...I love when the Lakers get challenged. seems like only the Spurs were able to stick it to them multiple times and get a ring.
Well FANATICAL luver....

the demographics of the league have now changed. The lakers were the Yankees of bball. They out spent everybody else. Well, now there is a stiff penalty for that. So, lets see if they can attract the talent they previously attracted, now that it is a more level playing field, implemented by the new CBA.

Please understand, players didn't go to the lakers, as you would like to believe, because they simply LOVED the lakers. They went there because the lakers had the money to pay them more than other teams could ever offer.

Now let's see how many premier players are willing to take less money to play along side the Ball Hawk/ Harlem Globetrotter/ And1 / Jack-Up artist.

Trade Gasol to the HEAT ....to play with LBJ !!! Lebron has " FUNDAMENTAL" basketball skills and understands, how to:
1. Set up an offense
2. Distribute the ball/ provide assists to guys that can't get their own shot
3. Distribute the ball to a skilled 7 footer that often has an advantage in the post as opposed to jacking up ill advised shots....tryin to be like Mike !

I can GUARANTEE you, LBJ's prediction of - Not 2, 3,4,5,6,7 will come true, with a skilled 7 footer in the post, like Gasol.

The fact that the Harlem Globe Trotter dude/ #24 / Fake M.J. wanna-be can't play alongside the likes of Gasol, clearly define his lack of bball knowledge and define the reason why he has only won ONE MVP of the NBA !

They make comments like " MY TEAM " as if they have a financial investment, stock holdings or part ownership....what a farce !!!

kobe is past his prime ! As with all athletes, you are only as good as the last championship you won. There are ZERO additional championships in kobes future (unless he goes and plays with LBJ.....ahahahahahaha)
kobe is a declining asset. As with all investments, the Buss family will be STOOPID to keep a depreciating asset, that they are paying top dollar for, on their books.

If my estimates are correct, this should get about 50-70 tumbs down, from the disillusioned laker hopefuls, that troll this site. ......ahahaha

All you guys criticizing Kobe for accepting the contract the LAKERS GAVE HIM would've done exactly the same thing if you were in his shoes. The Buss family didn't win all those titles and become rich by being stupid. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess they knew this day was coming when they gave Kobe that contract. The LAKERS will be fine! I have the utmost faith in the ownership. I guess an average of a title almost every 3 years over the last 30 gives me a reason for thinking that way.

lounge:

its all there in black and white with the new cba. If you choose to ignore FACTS, that's your choice. You cannot go by history on this. The cba IS going to change the landscape of the league.

Sadly, you DO have your head in the sand. You're blindly thinking its going to be just like it was in the past, when others, based in reality knows it nit to be so.
There will be no getting Magic or Worthy with a 1st rounder because someone made a dumb trade. There will be no Kareem or Gasol type trade, because Stern isnt allowing one sided trades anymore. There are huge taxes for going over the cap. I don't care how much $ they have, paying 50 mil in luxury tax is not smart .or good business.
Again, face facts.
These idiotic trade scenarios for Gasol are laughable. 3 1st rounder for a 31 yr old making 19 mil? Gasol for J. Smith?
Not happening. You Laker fans are spoiled for one, delusional for sure.

Yeah...still waiting on getting my head out of the sand...and the "Rapture" is happening this year because the televangelist said so (as he says every year)... my point...every year, i always hear someone say, "ah...things are different now (for whatever reason)! and the lakers are going down the tubes and into the land of sub-.500 seasons!" 30 years is a very long time...and they were good for a long time before that. History proves my point dude. not sure what else is to say about that. of course i expect bad seasons to happen every so often...but you see...i'm lucky, man. being a Laker fan is knowing my franchise competes every year...and the numbers show it.

Thank you, Stern did the right thing by nixing that trade. As a Laker fan, I always found it annoying here how Stern is the "evil emperor" for not letting CP3 becoming a Laker. First off, even though the Hornets would have a lot of older players, they would've been the only team that came out better, the Rockets and Lakers would have been worse. And Chris Paul is the best PG in the NBA, but Bynum+Pau is much better than having CP3, we would've looked like the Warriors when Monta was in Oakland with Curry: a fun back court but no substance. Never go big for small, and most trades should include money, picks, and young prospects, which the 2nd Chris Paul deal had.
