I agree with you 100% !!! The fact that Joe Johnson makes more than LBJ, CP3, Kevin Durant,Deron Williams, Tony Parker, D-Wade etc. etc. etc is RIDICULOUS !!!

As stated in the article you cannot amnesty a player you traded for after the cba was signed…..so no go.

I suspect the Lakers will trade Pau for Josh Smith. The Hawks need a bigger player, the Lakers need a more athletic player. Doesn’t really help with the luxury tax, but maybe the Lakers take back a bad, short term contract in addition to make the salaries work and then amnesty the new player (?)

There’s no real benefit to amnestying MWP. He’s a little overpaid, sure, but to get a starting caliber SF for 7mil who can play D and hit an occasional shot isn’t the worst contract on the team by a longshot. And even if you get rid of him, you’ve still got to pay him and whomever you get to replace him. Not really much of a savings there. He’ll also be an expiring contract next summer and be a lot easier to move. If they could do it with Walton, dumping MWP’s contract should be a cakewalk.

Besides the Lakers need to save that amnesty for next year when the really harsh luxury tax penalties kick in. If they can’t find a taker for Gasol that allows the team to improve and shed salary, he’s the likely amnesty.

i agree. he brings that “X” factor where he can come up huge and lockdown his assignment…but yeah, he obviously has some baggage but I like MWP…great guy to have off the bench.

I actually want Metta to stay a Laker. He sometimes will make ridiculous plays (like when he almost lost us the game in New Orleans), but he plays hard and will come up in big game against big stars.

I sincerely hope (but highly doubt) Danny Ferry’s first act as Hawk’s GM will be to flush Joe Johnson’s contract in this way.
