The King has his ring.

Finally playing like the team the rest of the league feared Miami Heat roared to an NBA title Thursday night. NBA finals LeBron James had a triple double in the biggest game of his career, Heat role players drained threes like they were layups, the Heat offense fired on all cylinders and was aggressive on defense — all of it eventually overwhelmed them blew out the Thunder out. It turned Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena into a 12-minute Championship party in the fourth quarter.

Miami won Game 5 121-106 and are now the NBA champions. LeBron James was named finals MVP.

It was the kind of game Heat fans envisioned and the rest of the league — including the Thunder — worried could happen when the Heat really clicked. Miami looked clear and away like the best team in the league.

“Today they were on fire…” Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. “We couldn’t handle everything they threw at us.”

Miami smelled blood in the water early. They came out with a business-like focus from the opening tip — LeBron had his head down and was driving the lane from the start, setting guys up for threes on kick outs and dominating the game.

Miami had some great ball movement, shot 51.9 percent and were 14-26 from three on the night. They overwhelmed a good Thunder team that played hard but is still learning how to execute and win on this level. They will be back. Kevin Durant brought it and finished with 32 points and 11 boards, but as a team the Thunder shot just 41.4 percent (and that went up during the garbage time fourth quarter, they were under 40 percent most of the game).

Miami started to pull away in the second quarter but in the third the Thunder made one more push and got the lead down to 7. The Heat answered with a 19-1 run that blew the lid off the game. The did it because everyone pitched in. Mike Miller, who looked like he could barely walk this series, was 7-of-11, all of his makes from three, for 23 points. Bosh was fantastic with 24. Dwyane Wade had 20. Mario Chalmers, Norris Cole, pretty much everyone hit shots.

In the end LeBron and Wade were hugging on the sidelines, they are NBA champions. Together.

congratulations miami. great win in a tough series. you guys earned the win this year! congratulations lebron for getting that monkey off your back.

congratulations to OKC as well for a great season. you guys will be right there next year. scott brooks and durant are class.

  2. miamatt - Jun 22, 2012 at 12:49 AM

This was the quintessential Miami Heat performance- swarming defense, winning 50/50 battles, getting to the paint and knocking down wide-open threes. This was the best game any Miami Heat team has ever played.

Heat fan since ’88, living the dream in the 3-0-5.

“LeBron James had a triple double in the biggest game of his career, Heat role players drained threes like they were layups, the Heat offense fired on all cylinders and was aggressive on defense — all of it eventually overwhelmed them blew out the Thunder out”

Kurt’s in classic form tonight. Wow. Straight from the Emmitt Smith School of Journalism to your computer monitor.

All that rigged stuff is ridiculous, once could’ve at least make a conceivable argument up to game 4, besides the fact that the league would be better off by LJ losing creating more interest on future and further polarizing things, but besides that you could have but no way NBA has it ending in 5 thereby losing millions. Ridiculous and ludicrous to still think that as many people say, refs were bad, no doubt, but were bad calls on both sides. LeBron did deserve this, he played his heart out. Looking forward to future thunder-heat, LeBron has the monkey off his back thats been weighing him down and were in for a ride while OKC has nowhere to go but up. Awesome Lakers Celts type decade coming, with bulls lakers dallas(if they pull out Dwill) and spurs interspersed. With my pitiful Knicks staying perpetually on the bubble of the playoffs year in and out. Pacers are interesting too, If they get a star.

“Ridiculous and ludicrous to still think that as many people say, refs were bad, no doubt, but were bad calls on both sides.”

Rediculous and ludicrous describes just about 80 percent of posters on here. There’s your answer.

  5. scalfor3 - Jun 22, 2012 at 2:17 AM

miami turned it around because they were humbled last year. they dropped last years entitled attitude and went out and earned it.

i hope their fans recognize the importance of that humility.

    • Tim Donaghy Institute of Refereeing - Jun 22, 2012 at 9:12 AM

      LOL….fat chance.

    • southbeachtalent - Jun 22, 2012 at 1:26 PM

      blah, blah, blah.

      • southbeachtalent - Jun 22, 2012 at 1:28 PM

        I didn’t know there was a fan-o-meter?

        BTW Larry says hi!

  7. md23rewlz - Jun 22, 2012 at 3:39 AM

Why, even after Miami just won a championship, are Heat fans so obsessed with the “haters”? If you’re an actual Heat fan, you should only care that your team just won a ring. Not that the “haters” were proven wrong. I’m a Mavs fan. Last year, did I care that people had spent years calling Dirk Nowitzki a soft Euro? No. All I cared about was that my team had come through. Give up the bizarre chip on the shoulder, Miami fans. It makes no sense to me. You had the best or second best team in the East all year. You did what a team of your talent should do. Revel in that. Why, five hours (or less) after your victory you’re knocking on “haters,” I don’t know.

    • eddiecrash1976 - Jun 22, 2012 at 7:51 AM

Dude Dirks criticism doesnt compare what to the Lebron hatred anyone with an IQ of 10the knows that. So shove where the sun don’t shine.

      • md23rewlz - Jun 22, 2012 at 6:42 PM

I was not insinuating that Dirk had been criticized more than James. Who got criticized more is a completely academic and pointless debate. I think it’s pretty reasonable to say that the Mavericks were lashed by the media after they blew the 2006 Finals and then subsequently were knocked out of the playoffs in Round 1 by Golden State–to James’s level, no, but they were raked over the coals thoroughly. Again, pointless academic debate that really has nothing to do with the fans–if LeBron wants to tell the haters to shove it, his prerogative. You are not LeBron, which is why I am legitimately curious as to the fan psychology here. Though I suppose without a “10the” IQ, such answers are probably above my pay grade. I apologize for attempting to have an intelligent discussion. In the future, I will tone that down.

    • southbeachtalent - Jun 22, 2012 at 9:31 AM

It feels better when the whole Country is rooting against you. Now we get to rub it in. Deal with it HATER…

      • scalfor3 - Jun 22, 2012 at 12:16 PM

hey you! you dont think lebron is better than jordan and magic put together?!?! HATERRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • md23rewlz - Jun 22, 2012 at 7:04 PM

Such negative energy. Come all you people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now.

  8. paulhargis53 - Jun 22, 2012 at 4:40 AM

    OKC IN 9!

Congrats Heat. A majority of the posters on here not so much.

The childish displays the last few weeks were just too much.
To the rest of you, enjoy it!

    • eddiecrash1976 - Jun 22, 2012 at 7:49 AM

      Yeah Paul, starting with you!

  9. raidmagic - Jun 22, 2012 at 7:19 AM

Congrats Heat. Way to step up in the moment Lebron a well earned title.

    • daniel10017 - Jun 22, 2012 at 9:32 AM

Agreed. I’m not a Heat fan and I was hoping another humility would bring Pat Riley back to the bench. The Heat went thru lots of pain during the last year and deserved their title. Even the Heat haters have to admit that.

  10. truthhurtstoo - Jun 22, 2012 at 7:22 AM

PERHAPS THE BEST FINALS ENDING EVER. The thunder looked like children out there playing with Champions!

  11. onlyincleveland0316 - Jun 22, 2012 at 8:41 AM

No matter how many rings, leBOOB will ALWAYS be a loser.

    • cullenand99 - Jun 22, 2012 at 9:25 AM

Cleveland sucks and always will suck

  12. loungefly74 - Jun 22, 2012 at 8:51 AM

Congrats to the Heat. They deserved it. I have nothing but happiness for that team. Good Job and Good Effort!

  13. paulhargis53 - Jun 22, 2012 at 9:06 AM

And the Heat fans prove my point for me.
49 comments and 1 Heat fan commends OKC on a good year.

Pitiful. It was the same for the Celtics and Pavers series too.
    What a pompous,asinine, immature fanbase.
Happy for LeBron. Heat fans can go piss up a rope.

    • 1972wasalongtimeago - Jun 22, 2012 at 9:51 AM

We’ll piss up a rope. Except this rope is the one that will be used to hoist a second world champonship banner, thank you very much.

OKC is a BEAST. They will be back again and again. But this article isn’t about OKC. It’s about the Miami Heat winning the world championship. You want OKC love, go to the articles about OKC.

  14. heat256 - Jun 22, 2012 at 9:30 AM

What a great win for LBJ, the entire Heat organization and Miami fans!! Great series. OKC played hard, and hat’s off to them. It wasn’t their time. That’s all. To the whiners on here (and amazing how many of them are in hiding) pulled the “ref’s fault” excuses out of their dirty butts, suck it. Miami played harder, smarter and better. that’s why they are champions. LeBron played exactly how a champion should play, and shut up many of his critics for good with this playoff run. I’m gonna enjoy the parade and have a blast. Can’t wait for next season!!!

  15. paulhargis53 - Jun 22, 2012 at 9:59 AM

What does it say about a person when they are more concerned about rubbing it in than celebrating? Immaturity is always on display by Heat fans. It seems to be a staple on NBC sportstalk as a platform.
    Again, congrats to LeBron.
Miami fans, the Saints fans of basketball.
    That isn’t s compliment….

    • heat256 - Jun 22, 2012 at 10:46 AM

Sorry chief, but when this team and James have had more venom spewed at them than any other team/player in history, damn right we are gonna give that right back. Any fan would enjoy being able to shut up the doubters and the jackasses who talk trash then clam up when they are proven wrong. I give props to OKC for playing hard, but I damn sure going to look for the trash talkers and put them in their place.

  16. paulhargis53 - Jun 22, 2012 at 10:45 AM

Don’t want OKC “love”. But, at least show some respect to your opponents.

It was the same bs every series. Heat fans being obnoxious to fans of other teams. The total lack of sportsmanship paints you as classless assholes.

When its more about rubbing it in than being happy about winning., something is very wrong.
You as fans, are living vicariously through a sports team. You didn’t do anything but be a fan. Why the constant in your face boorishness out of this fanbase?
Is your life that empty that your team winning makes you think you’re better than someone else now? Pathetic.
You raised #2 huh? only 16 more to go to be ahead of my team.
There again, the team took you to the limit, a team that was decimated by injuries and instead of showing sportsmanship, you denigrate them. Same with the Pacers.
    Classless , know nothing blowhards.
I didn’t hate the Heat before this year, nor til I started reading the postings here.
You’re just as bad as the Saints fans are.
The one poster is right. 1/10th of you were fans before this year. Pathetic.

    • 1972wasalongtimeago - Jun 24, 2012 at 10:52 AM

Not one post here says anything negative about OKC. Go back and read just about ANY article on PBT over the past 2 years and all you’ll get is an ocean of classless A-Holes just reigning down the hatred they have for themselves on the Heat.

Classless fans? Like the Celtics fan dumping a beer on LeBron after he went Kaizer Soze on your team in Game 6? Classless like the Celtics fans that loudly chanted “Ugly Sister” at Lamor Odom a year or two back?

And as far as the 16 more, I’m glad you’re against shoving success in everybody’s face, but let’s face it; about 13 of your championships came before any of us were born and in an era when it was Bill Russell against a bunch of small white guys who played for Rochester and Syracuse. So yeah, the Celts have more championships in total, but since the Heat were formed in 1988, it’s Heat 2, Celtics 1.

But just so it’s on the record, congrats to OKC. You have a beast of a team, and other than Game 5, this series could have gone either way. And to the Celtics, thanks for bringing out the best in the Heat, Without the Celtics being so good, the Heat wouldn’t be so good. We needed the Celtics. Thanks also to the Pacers, for hitting us in the face and making us taste our blood. Woke up a sleeping giant. Who’d we play in the first round? I forget.

  17. chitownmatt - Jun 22, 2012 at 11:23 AM

Congratulations to the Heat and all their Fans….

I eat all my words and posts of the 2012 season.

    See ya’ll next year.

I have to concur with LeBron … it is “about damn time!”
