Trading Gasol would be NUTS! – They need to let Howard back up Gasol – Put Gasol back in the post and abandoned that Princeton offensive with the personal you have. Gasol is a great passer in the post and can get everyone else involved and if Howard backs him up this first year – he will be a much better player down the road because of it – I agree that Gasol ate Howard’s lunch in the finals -
he is a better skilled player..

Again, the Lakers are not going to be gifted #1 overall picks like in the past, ala worthy and Johnson.
They also aren’t going to get sweetheart trades like Jabbar and Gasol.
Those days are over, see Paul trade nixed for example. They can’t just go throw money at things anymore either.
Stern wants parity, his stated goal is a star in every city. zThe heat are the last of the big 3. The sooner you get that, the better off you’ll be.

To Stern had to veto the ridiculous Chris Paul trade. The Chris Paul trade proves, in fact, that those kind of trades are still possible. If the Hornets was not team owned, at that time, it would have went through.

I see why many Kobe nay sayers call him a ball hog, he does break from the offense a lot, but still finds a way to score. But don’t act like he doesn’t want to win. He may have jacked up plenty of shots this past season, but that was due to a lack of communication with Mike Brown’s “offense”, and the bench couldn’t score, even though we Laker fans was supposed to have great shooters in Troy Murphy, Steve Blake, and Jason Kapono. How can you call him a ball hog when he has more assists than Kevin Durant? How about when he drew up the play for Bynum to beat Boston on March 11th? Or when he gave Fisher the assist to beat Dallas back in January? Championship teams always has great team chemistry and a great bench, something the LA seriously lacked this season.

I’m a Laker fan also, but Deron Williams doesn’t want to become a Laker in a heartbeat. Come to think of it, when the media asked him about becoming a Laker, he said he always hated the Lakers back in his Jazz days. D-Will really wants to be a Dallas Maverick more than anything, he always left hints in the media, as he spoke about how he loves to play in the American Airlines Arena in Dallas and how Mavs fans were great. If Mike Brown figures out how to utilize Pau and Bynum correctly, and acquires a MUCH better bench, then the Lakers are back in it. The whole team was still making adjustments as the playoffs went on, they’re still trying to get a hold of the confusing offense.

lakerluver: What you are failing to understand is that the parameters have changed from the last time they had to replace a superstar. How do you not get that?
Salary cap and luxury tax see to that.
What they will get for Gasol won’t be equal talent. They aren’t going to be able to carry 3 max contracts, which is why they have to trade him, to pay Bynum.
The NBA wants parity. That’s why Stern vetoed that ridiculous Chris Paul trade.
Also Jerry isn’t running the team anymore, his kid is more fiscally responsible, he has to be. You Laker fans have been spoiled way too long. I don’t hate the Lakers, I dislike most of the fans sense of entitlement.
Kobes contract has the front office hamstrung. There isn’t much they can do to get him another ring. He’s not winning one in the next 2 years. No bench. 40-50 mil tied up in Kobe and Bynum. And you think there is some out of the blue trade that’s going to fix this? You’re delusional.
Keep waiting for it to happen, you’ll be waiting a long time. Get used to average basketball.

The new CBA dictates that either Pau or Bynum has to go. They can’t play together well and they both make big nba salaries. While Bynum has more trade value, Jim “baby” Buss is far too anamoured with the childish talent. Kobe is literally untradeable. So Pau goes. Their needs are too great to hope that a trade for Pau will be the solution. They were hamstringed by the short signing period and Stern’s gift to the Clevelands of the nba of nixing the CP3 trade. We will see how Kupchak and baby buss do this year. If they can do no better than last year at building a decent bench then the Kobe era will go out with a wimper. Brown was also a big part of this years problem, as he is so offensively inept. But I don’t see him going anywhere this year. We will see.

CP3 has stated numerous times he would have lived to play with Kobe. So you’re wrong there too. While it is true that Kobe’s pre-new CBA contract is a tremendous problem for the lakers, they’ve never been as bad as the clippers or the other teams that always stink. The lakers have never “been out of it” for 8-10 years, ever. Maybe history is something you’re ignorant about too.

Haven’t you clueless twits learned yet to NEVER count my LAKERS out? The LAKERS are the best franchise by far in the NBA. The Buss family will make sure that doesn’t change. I know you LAKER haters have been anxiously waiting for Kobe to get old. But Magic got old and the LAKERS reloaded. Kareem got old and the LAKERS reloaded. Shaq left and the naysayers said the LAKERS were finished!! That was two more rings ago! Kobe will eventually retire but another superstar will suit up in the PURP AND GOLD. Why? Because great players want to play for great organizations and with other great players. I would not be surprised if the LAKERS added another star player this offseason. The Pau trade came out of nowhere, remember?! If you nitwits honestly think the Buss family will let Kobe finish out his illustrious career as 2nd round fodder you really haven’t been paying attention to how the LAKERS operate. They haven’t averaged a Larry O’Brien trophy almost every 3 years for the past 3 decades by not knowing what they’re doing!!!!!

We will regret trading Pau Gasol. He wants to play here and he’s being treated as the problem when it’s Bynum who is the problem. We will not be good underneath until Bynum head “gets right” and he plans like he’s supposed to. Gasol is a TEAM player and Brown doesn’t see that. No, you stop it. 2008 pick wasDonte Green, later traded for Darrel Arthur.
2010 pick was Greivas Vasquez.
These guys are both end of the rotation players.
So they got:
Kwame- turd
Crittendon, Mckie,Arthur and Vasquez.
Marc Gasol is the only above average player out of that group.

How anyone says that Memphis didn’t get hosed by that trade is beyond me.
A serviceable big man, and junk for a perrenial all star……Ooof.

Kobe’s chance to put his money where his mouth is came and went in 2010 when he signed his “nail-in-the-Lakers-championship-hopes” extension. You do realize Kobe (and his agent) wanted more money? Dr. Buss just refused to give him more than he could fetch on the open market.

Many a disillusioned Laker fan such as myself really bought into his “All about the rings” act, but if he were serious, he needed to take a paycut then. Now, it’s just not possible. THERE IS NO RENEGOTIATING NBA CONTRACTS. They’re etched in diamond and sealed in Amber.

Kobe already put his money where his mouth is, and that mouth said “Give me more money!” He’s earned it. He was the second most important cog on his rings with Shaq and led the show with the last 2. But the ring count likely stops here.

That was a HORRIBLE trade for Memphis!
They got garbage for him. Outside if Marc, who took years to develop, what did they get? Kwame Brown, Crittendon Mckie and 2 late m1st rounders.
West had just stepped down, he pulled the strings on that trade, and you’re a moron if you don’t think so.
