I think they package it the way they do to create maximum amount of drama in a exact time frame. The actual lottery consists of lottery pinball machines shooting out a number with ranges assigned to teams. Out of the numbers pop out by the machine, we know first and last of whose range it fell in. As after Hornets number came up, their number could have come up multiple times but wouldn’t have counted. That could be boring and more importantly it lacks set time frame for TV.

Maybe. If people knew MJ was available in 84, I think Houston has 6 titles instead of 2. Then again those Portland teams with the Dream would have been strong contenders.

it’s not that simple, it still comes down to money. Stern is in the process of selling the hornets, and having the number one pick significantly raises the value of the team. I think the rig is that in order to sell the team they had to throw in some extra incentive, and a number one pick will do that.

Come on use your head, there are more factors than just the market. Stern can easily rig it again next year and send a derrick rose type player to a huge market, chicago for example.

We look at the game as fans, and we want it to be as fair a game as possible, but in reality, the nba is product that we are buying. Stern doesn’t look at it like we do, this is a business that is manipulated by the guys upstairs to bring in more money for the long term. To think otherwise is just careless.

Woke up, muttered some prayers, checked NBA.com…blew my roof off lool …I don’t care much for the conspiracy theories but im really happy that
A.) Davis is joining what has looked like a promising rebuilding process in the last season even if the record didnt show it and
B.) The Bobcats missed out even following their horrifically played out historic tank job; Hate the way they’ve run that franchise into the ground and they didnt deserve a gem like davis

Kurt’s right. If Stern was going to rig the lottery, it would have been for the larger TV market – and I think Washington DC was the largest market of the top 6 teams that had any chance. DC is the 9th largest TV market in the country, Cleveland is #17, Sacramento is #20, Portland is #22, and Charlotte is #24, whereas New Orleans is only #53.

Clearly sending the best prospect of the last few years to the #53 TV market in the country is not good business if you are going to be rigging lotteries.

If the NBA really wanted to rig the lottery, the Golden State Warriors with their 3.6% chance and 6th largest US TV market would have gotten Anthony Davis.

I get so tired about hearing how New Orleans is the smallest market it’s not, for whatever reason the 2 biggest areas (west bank and north shore) are not counted as being part of the New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner New Orleans Metro Area. Those 2 areas added in double the metro population. I don’t understand why they aren’t included where I live on the Westbank is geographically closer to downtown than Metairie but I guess since you have to cross a bridge to get there we don’t count who knows.

Stern’s a joke and so is his lottery system. If it wasn’t rigged it sure looks like it was. How can “arguably” the worse team in NBA history NOT get the 1st overall pick?!! The Colts sucked and they got Luck. The NBA needs to take some pointers from the NFL. Why is it only in the NBA that the draft process is suspect?! I still despise that little snake in the grass Stern for vetoing what would’ve been a tremendous trade for my beloved LAKERS.

When I saw this post my heart immediately sank. New Orleans who owns Minnesota’s #1 from the Clippers. I immediately thought that was the Wolves pick. That would have been their luck

Never has Minnesota won the lottery. Minnesota has only stayed the same once. Every other time they have dropped. So naturally why wouldn’t have been their pick?
