Quote of the Day: “I want some nasty”

May 28, 2012, 8:02 AM EDT

The best part of this Gregg Popovich in-game pep talk to his team is really the way he snarls that last line.

He started the speech (before that video clip above) with the line “Are we having fun yet?” His Spurs were down 9 going into the fourth and he hadn’t seen the fight from them that had won 18 in a row yet. He was about to, in part because he went small (more in part because Scott Brooks matched him and left his best defenders in Thabo Sefolosha and Serge Ibaka on the bench for most of the fourth).

After that talk, the Spurs hung 37 on OKC in the fourth and took a 1-0 series lead.

Man I can’t believe I missed this game I thought all the conference finals started tonight!

It wasn’t that great of a game unless you’re a huge Ginobili fan. Here’s a summary:

San Antonio came out and tried too hard, ran too fast, turned the ball over. Thunder made some shots and got some fast break points but didn’t build any kind of lead. San Antonio settles down behind Manu’s passing and shooting and Russell Westbrook played completely out of control and tried to be a hero.

Unless they changed the official box, pretty sure it was a 39-point 4Q for Los Spurs de Caliente.

You mean you found an error in a Kurt Helin piece? Surprising…

Ginobili was amazing. I expect the rest of the bench to play better in game 2.

#20 = salvation. Spurs did play sloppy first half by turning ball over bout 14 times. That gave OKC fast break points. Coach Pop, well all I can say is coach of the year. Go Spurs.
