I just passed out learning you're a Long Beach State ticketholder . I made it to a lot of LBSU games when Seth Greenberg was coach and I absolutely loved the summer Pro league , sponsered by Fila , when it was there . Ah , Kobe and Fish were rookie ballers in 97 for the Lakers playing at Long Beach State . All the great pro's played there . Oddly enough , perhaps the best performances ever seen at the Fila Summer Pro League at Long Beach State was by Laker invitee Keith Closs . Believe it or not , his play put the fans and the Pro scouts in basketball eurphoria . He was sensational . This guy was was an un-drafted 7'3 center from Central Connecticut State . After the pro league he was approached by eight NBA teams who wanted to sign him . The Clippers took him with a 5 year $8.5 million dollar contract. He was so talented , but he wasted a promising career because he wanted to be a thug gangbanger and started to hit the booze bottle at a tender age . What a waste . He could have been special .
In case you think I'm dreaming , I spoke to Dennis Johnson ( Boston Celtics ) later the coach of the Austin Toro's NBADL who said the same thing to me . Dennis was an assistant to the Clippers before he took the Development league job .
Long Beach State 49ers . What a great school and an outstanding basketball program .
