Heat say Bosh out “indefinitely” with strained abdominal muscle

The results from the MRI are in and it is not good.

Chris Bosh will be out “indefinitely” with a strained abdominal muscle suffered in the first half of the Heat’s Game 1 win over the Indiana Pacers Sunday, the Heat have announced. The reason for no timeline is that these injuries are very hard to predict, based on severity and other factors. Most likely he is out for this series at least.

As we said in a more detailed post, this likely does not hurt the Heat too much in this series — although Indiana’s size advantage with Roy Hibbert in the paint just got bigger and you can bet they will work to exploit it more. The Pacers are not an easy out.

For Miami, everyone just moves up a chair. LeBron James will now play more time at the four spot, with Ronny Turiaf and Joel Anthony splitting time at the five, plus Udonis Haslem will have to step up. When the Heat had to go to those lineups during the regular season they still outscored their opponents (their regular starting lineup but with Shane Battier for Bosh was +3.3 per 48 minutes), just not by as much as when Bosh was on the floor (+6 per 48 with starters). It’s like that however you cut it up. Put simply, no matter what your local talk radio host says, the Heat are not better off without Bosh — the numbers across the board show they take a step back without him.

Again, the Heat should still get past a good but not yet good enough Pacers team. And while the Celtics or Sixers present new challenges in the next round. The Heat may be without Bosh but likely still would be good enough to advance.

But beyond that… the Heat will try to cross that bridge when the come to it. But if the Thunder are by that bridge the Heat are going to need Bosh.

Does OKC get an asterisk if they win the championship, or does an asterisk only apply if the Heat win?

Just want to know before we start this thing.

    • cantonbound13 - May 14, 2012 at 1:27 PM

It’s funny how heat fans get riled up about asterisk talk if they should some how win the championship. They’re not even the best team!!!! San Antonio & OKC are much deeper TEAMS!

      • 1972wasalongtimeago - May 14, 2012 at 1:54 PM

Not riled up. Satirical. Of course there’s no asterisk. It’s an absolutely ridiculous thing that never should have been brought up, but some prominent anti-Heat guys (Bill Simmons and the like) made it a topic.

And aren’t you a Dolphins fan? What the hell, man? We’ve got enough enemies from the outside. We don’t need Miami Fan on Miami Fan crime. Marino wouldn’t want to see you come to this.

Come on home. We’ll accept you.

    • drunkenjunk - May 14, 2012 at 1:31 PM

don’t worry, the Heat aren’t gonna win anything.

  2. iknowzeroaboutsports - May 14, 2012 at 12:52 PM

Lin, Howard, Rose…Miami would have had to face them had they been healthy. Welcome to the playoffs.

    • southbeachtalent - May 14, 2012 at 6:28 PM

Except Lin couldn’t even dribble down court against the Heat. Watch a game, they’re pretty exciting..

  3. 91devinhester23 - May 14, 2012 at 12:54 PM

    what a shame

now lebron, its hop step time

  4. aboogy123456 - May 14, 2012 at 12:57 PM

It’s not a given that the Heat will advance without Bosh, as you say. I think this is huge news and horrible for Heat fans. You only mention Oklahoma City, but now I definitely would take Boston, LA, and San Antonio over them as well.

    • kinggw - May 14, 2012 at 1:52 PM

Its not a given? Please, the Celtics have had problems beating mediocre teams like the Sixers and Hawks, what are they going to do with the Heat? Losing Bosh for the time being is a setback, but Battier, Miller and Jones will get more minutes at the 3 and LBJ will be spending more time at the 4. The Heat will be fine. They will face some difficulties in the Finals if Bosh hasnt returned, but they shouldnt have a problem getting there.

      • aboogy123456 - May 14, 2012 at 1:56 PM

The problem with the heat is yes, they have lebron and wade, and bosh is good too, but they don’t have a lot of depth at all. With Bosh out, I would definitely pick the celtics, they already match up very well against the heat and have given them trouble this year. With bosh out, it makes it easier for the defense to sag in the lane, knowing that there is no bosh to make them pay with jumpers. you lost me when you said battier..

Also, Kurt’s article implied that the only team that can beat the Heat without bosh is the thunder, which is simply not true.

      • jimeejohnson - May 14, 2012 at 6:13 PM

The Celtics beat up on the Heat in Boston and at Miami the last two meetings this season. Hence, I think you are lying!

  5. cantonbound13 - May 14, 2012 at 1:24 PM

    Karma is a bi*** LeBust!

    • heat256 - May 14, 2012 at 2:29 PM

At least the Cavs have HOF Antawn Jameson and Anderson Varejao. Oh wait, that’s why you’re sad and bitter.

      • cantonbound13 - May 14, 2012 at 3:11 PM

I’m from Miami, really don’t care about Cleveland. I can’t stand the Heat because of LeBron & Wade’s arrogance.

    • 1972wasalongtimeago - May 14, 2012 at 3:24 PM

Because of arrogance!!!!!???? Are you kidding me? THAT”S what all your hatred and venom is about? Dude, they’re ALL arrogant. Your boy Marino is the bigest arrogant prick there is. That’s what made him great. If you don’t like arrogant athletes, you don’t like athletes.

Take a deep breath. You live here. You’ve suffered through how many disappointing Dolphins seasons? Here we are, MIAMI’s team; blessed with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, and you’re going to waste this once in a lifetime fan experience because YOU think they think too highly of themselves?

      Come on man.

      • heat256 - May 14, 2012 at 4:04 PM

Yeah, his thought process really doesn’t make sense. Just about any great athlete, musician, actor, etc has that arrogance about them. Whether they got it themselves or it grew due to public adoration is irrelevent. Jordan was arrogant, Kobe, Shaq and countless others were arrogant. So what? I like watching them, as I did watching all the other arrogant pricks in sports, Marino especially. Come up with a better reason please. That excuse just smacks of jealousy.

      • progress2011 - May 14, 2012 at 5:50 PM

1972 – MAN, you are handing that guy (cantonbound) his lunch, snatch it away from him and then hand it to him again….ahahahaha !!!!

  6. ezmagic - May 14, 2012 at 1:34 PM

He’s an Allstar, how could it not hurt your team. When was the last time Anthony, turiaf or Haslem were allstars? There’s still plenty of time for more injuries on any team. Don’t be surprised…. Who’s next? Wade is injury prone

  7. lakerluver - May 14, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Oh freakin well!! The Bulls lost Rose, the Magic lost Howard. What’s messed up is Indy should’ve won gm 1.

    • soflasfinest - May 14, 2012 at 3:14 PM

And you guys lost Bynum due to his menstrel period and throwing temper tantrums on the bench. All the team animosity yall have after going 7 games in round 1! Haha talking shit is the last thing you should be doing. Have fun getting raped by the thunder

    • progress2011 - May 14, 2012 at 5:57 PM

lakerluver – No…what’s messed up is that some guys actually get hurt !

While kobe (your boi) get’s a tiny belly ache, sticks his fingers (maybe other objects) down his throat to make himself throw up.

Then, run outside the locker room to tell a member of the media, I have a tummy ache…..BUT I’m gonna fight thru it, cause I want you to remember how Jordan played thru sickness.

FAKER….everyone already knows cali dudes are fake like paton leather, but dude takes it to a whole new level.

  8. kinggw - May 14, 2012 at 1:39 PM

Its not good news but it isnt bad news either. Bad news would have been news of a muscle tear and Bosh being gone for the remainder of the playoffs. The Heat shouldnt have any real problems until they reach the Finals. I dont think we will see Bosh the rest of this series, but I would expect him to make an appearance next series.

  9. jgillmeister - May 14, 2012 at 1:53 PM

According to his fans, LeBron is so great that if the Heat would lose both Dweeb Wayne & JarJar Bosh, the Heat should still win it all!

If they don’t, LeBron will get the label he deserves – His Royal Highness, James, Queen of the losers

    • southbeachtalent - May 14, 2012 at 6:33 PM

Well lets see, LeBron made it to the Finals without Wade in the Cavs so it’s not crazy to think that this is no great loss.

Anyway, wasn’t everyone saying how overrated Bosh spice is? How he’s not part of the big 3?? Remember that?

Regardless, Pacers will put up a battle but at the end it will be Heat and Celtics.

      • duane888 - May 14, 2012 at 10:25 PM

        Heat and Sixers

  10. acdc363 - May 14, 2012 at 1:55 PM

As much as I hate the heat I can’t help but love the character that is Chris Bosh.

“I think we did good! I think we did real good! Good s***!”

  11. diabloryno - May 14, 2012 at 2:20 PM

Anything Heat related gets a ton of comments. I’m sure Kurt is well aware of this too.

    • southbeachtalent - May 14, 2012 at 6:34 PM

      you think?

Can’t get one passed you can we?

  12. mungman69 - May 14, 2012 at 2:21 PM

The Heat will win it all.

  13. omniusprime - May 14, 2012 at 2:39 PM

Chris Bosh is a big sissy. Kobe would have played the whole game and not wimped out cry babying about the pain. Just goes to show what a bunch of pansies play at Miami. I’m sure Queen James is already making up excuses for why the Heatstroke didn’t win a championship this year. Go Kobe!!!! Go Lakers!!!!

    • progress2011 - May 14, 2012 at 6:09 PM

kobe…you mean the same dude that had a broken finger nail, for most of the season and he wrapped up his entire finger and hand because his manicure was not coordinated.

The same dude that just had a tiny belly ache, sat on the side lines making faces (attempting to draw Jordan similarities).

I faked sick better as an young child, to get out of chores.

Dude is fake, just like everything in cali. :

      1. The state tries to portray wealth and prosperity but just posted a 16 BILLION dollar shortfall.

      2. Federal and government workers are forced to take pay cuts and work without pay, in some cases because of the government mismanagement.

The state is basically bankrupt and the rest of hard working America, might have to bail the surfer dude state out.

      3. Dudes drive around in fancy cars, like they are rich but the reason they are driving and won’t park it, is because the dealership wants it back !

So, don’t perpetrate like kobe or l.a. is anything other than a bunch of Fakers, Perpetrators and Losers !

      • jimeejohnson - May 14, 2012 at 6:20 PM

Not everything in “Cali” (term that outsiders use) is fake. You need to go well north, behind the Redwood Curtain, but please don’t stay. Thanks.

      • progress2011 - May 14, 2012 at 9:27 PM

jimeejohnson….Really Dude, even your name is Fake !!!

Trust me, I don’t stay. When I’m forced to visit on business, I make sure I don’t purchase any of the overpriced goods either.

Everything is priced 3x’s the normal price one would pay for in a city with good infrastructure and jobs !

I hold on to my money, until I get back to a true prosperous city, instead of the fake prosperity you fakely enjoy in cali.

ahahahah….what really makes me laugh is, from the janitor at the airport, the waiter at the restaurant, the hotel clerk, the rental car clerk, the random people I encounter throughout the day…..EVERYONE is working on a movie, modeling….or name dropping about a celebrity they supposedly know !!!

        ahahahaha….FAKERS !!!!

  14. chiadam - May 14, 2012 at 3:00 PM

Will LeBron and Wade walk around faking strained ab muscles and giggling like little children?

  15. canehouse - May 14, 2012 at 3:00 PM

The Hate is stronger than ever… So funny reading all of the Haters posting on Heat related stories… but not seeing much chatter on their own team stories.

    • turnmymicup - May 14, 2012 at 5:17 PM

Its not just funny its really amazing. So many people hate the heat but follow them like groupies. All these lame excuses why ppl don’t like the heat. When in reality they would rather watch a Heat game over their own team. Bosh going down does create a problem. The bench is going to have to step all the way up. However defense is our strength and our core is still strong with Bosh sitting. Go Heat!

      • iknowzeroaboutsports - May 14, 2012 at 6:05 PM

  16. philiplewis1 - May 14, 2012 at 3:01 PM

Bosh or not Bosh, the Heat still have the problem that they can’t play as a team. The Mavericks exploited it last year and this year so will the Thunder, Spurs, etc. You can’t win with a bunch of individuals not playing as a team. All you have to do is look at our past history in international play when we obviously had the best players but struggled with many of the better foreign teams. Team play can make up for an awful lot of talent.

    • david8726 - May 14, 2012 at 5:55 PM

I’m sorry but this post is just silly. You realize that team defense is all about 5 guys working together as team, right?

The strength of the Heat has always been their defense, which is all about team work. They play as a unit on that end better than every team in the league except Chicago. And on the offensive end, everyone who has been paying attention agrees that the synergy between Wade, LeBron, and the rest of the team has only gotten better as time has gone on.

  17. dirtybird2020 - May 14, 2012 at 4:01 PM

It was bulls year and everyone knew it, miami blows all thier teams, the fans the city, and the people that floated there from cuba! Its indianas series to lose, what happened this season when bosh was out??? Lost 3 in a row! Miami fans blow and they know their good at it, anyone who calls another man king is a b#%ch!

    • heat256 - May 14, 2012 at 4:07 PM

I’d like to offer a long rebuttal, but I’d rather just skip to the part where I call you an idiot.

      • southbeachtalent - May 14, 2012 at 6:36 PM

        Agreed. Class A Moron.

    • progress2011 - May 14, 2012 at 6:18 PM

Dirty Bird….Where Ya Hawks At !!!! ahahahahaha

Dude Joe Johnson makes more than Wade, LBJ and Bosh and he is a SCRUB !

No disrespect to people that have real mental illnesses BUT does Joe have Downs Syndrome !

Cause he never has any emotion, facial expressions or physical response to ANYTHING !

They can be up by 20 or down by 20, in the 1st quarter or 1 minute left, if someone dunks on him or he dunks on someone….He has no emotion.

      That’s your franchise player…..ahahahahaha.

If I were picking a team, I wouldn’t even pick dude….Meanwhile LBJ is the MVP !

      Keep hating dirty / Grady-Baby !!!

  18. jhawver - May 14, 2012 at 4:16 PM

Durant, Rose, Duncan equal non-arrogant. Plz don’t say all.

  19. dirtybird2020 - May 14, 2012 at 4:32 PM

Lebrons bi$&h speaks!!?!? Save ur breath , ur gonna need it when lebron tells you to swallow!

  20. canehouse - May 14, 2012 at 4:49 PM

dirtybird assumming that you’re from Atlanta… so put down the meth pipe… get up off of your underage cousin, and get a life!!!

  21. sportsandmuzak - May 14, 2012 at 4:55 PM

I love the HEAT… But they just need a more experienced and competitive coach! BOTTOM LINE… For all the Kobe fans…Kobe had Phil Jackson…Jordan had Phil Jackson… Does anybody else see the trend? Its not just great players that win championships….its the great coach who leads them to it. Spoelstra looks nervous all the time… But I’m still sticking with the Heat this year.

  22. nickbartlett12 - May 14, 2012 at 5:07 PM

Time for LeBron to show why he’s MVP. This should have been his 5th MVP in a row.

    • duane888 - May 14, 2012 at 10:38 PM

Knicks already found out. Indiana will soon follow…

  23. dirtybird2020 - May 14, 2012 at 5:45 PM

Hell no! Whos watching these bums over their teams! Ill watch them because i want to see those 3 butt buddys fail! And i watch every playoff game, you be stupid not too! But now im watching the indiana pacers and heat, and ur stupid if you think bosh out dont affect them, welcome eddy curry to the starting lineup, and choke on your words before u can take them back! I never though id be cheering for indiana but i hope the heat either this series but id rather see them lose on the big stage and see wade request a trade next year because he gave his team to a player who hasnt earned anything, takes easy ways out, blames others, and constantly chokes when it matters! East got lucky by default and they know it, f$&k the heat, f$&k thier city, and f$&k their bandwagon fans who couldnt even fill a stadium before last year! Thats whats up and the truth about you queers! Lbj hater for life, if you like lebron ur a fag!

  24. dirtybird2020 - May 14, 2012 at 5:56 PM

Making fake commercials telling kids to goto school! What college did that POS goto?? Enough said, west gave lebron and his mom a nice happy mothers day gift too, a new brother and son! Like mother like son! Its sad when u cant even show up in your own hood, lebron had how many good players and still couldnt get the job done what a loser, lebron is the fly on jordans sh!t, wade a b$&ch too, needs to choke his kunt ast a gf cause she cant clise her mouth unless its filled with u know what! I love watch ur sh!t city flake out in sports every year! Thanks for the entertainment over the last 20 years, 1 good year then get swept the next year cause shaq couldnt carry those queers another year!

    • progress2011 - May 14, 2012 at 6:25 PM

      Dirty-Grady Baby….

You got a lil hostility….ahahahaha ! I just got one question for you:

      Where Ya Hawks At !!!!

      • southbeachtalent - May 14, 2012 at 6:50 PM

His scrub Hawks are watching the playoffs from their couch. What a sorry excuse of a franchise… Joe Johnson has to be the most over-payed under achiever in league history, seriously he has to be. He gets paid more than LeBron! 3 time league MVP!!! Just hilaroius!

Is it me or does Dirty-Grady Baby reference homosexual tendencies on a regular basis? Are u frustrated, did a special man break your heart? Did he look like LeBron? Hmmmm maybe I’m on to something…

Hawks…hahahaha, should change their name to the wood peckers..

  25. mornelithe - May 14, 2012 at 6:20 PM

That’s too bad, hate to see any team lose any player for any period of time, let alone during the playoffs. The Heat have a very talented team though, so they should be able to persevere.
