J. R. is talented but he doesn’t know how to play the correct way. 2 years under a great college coach might’ve helped in that regard. For every great play he makes, he makes two dumb plays.

Unfortunately, if JR is going to be effective, he’s going to need to be his hot dog self. When he’s on it’s a spectacle. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to be “on” often enough. It’s made me appreciate Carmelo more, a guy who plays a similar game, yet gets the job done enough to justify it.

I’d like to see him back on the Knicks. Really nice to have someone on the second unit that can create his own shot. However, I wouldn’t consider him a necessary building block, and I can’t imagine him turning down more money from elsewhere.

Love JR and his effort. Don’t like the shot selection, but as a fan since his high school days, you know that going in.

I called him JR Starks since he got here, and it was fitting that in a close out game, he shot like Starks did in the ’94 Finals, Game 7.

But let’s not kid ourselves, we’re not going to be able to sign anyone of even equal caliber (no cap space) or be expected to depend upon a rookie — provided that Grunwald drafts shrewdly — to do the same. Shump was ready made, and anyone who watched him at GT knew that, but that’s rarely the case, especially for guards.
