Report: Magic interview Adonal Foyle for GM position

May 9, 2012, 4:01 PM EDT

Foyle

The Orlando Magic have a general manager, Otis Smith, but his hold on the position is as firm as Gary Busey’s hold on reality.

Now comes a report that the Magic have already started to look at a replacement. From the twitter of Jarrod N. Rudolph, who writes for Real GM and is very connected with the Magic.

Sources say Orlando Magic have interviewed Adonal Foyle, Director of Player Development, for General Manager position.

Combine that with what J.J. Redick was told, via the twitter of John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com.

JJ Redick: “I’ve been told there will be clarity with management in the next few weeks.” Obviously referring to SVG and Otis Smith.

The denials will be coming out of Orlando soon, but undoubtedly they are moving quickly to clear things up. And it looks like they are moving toward making changes.

That’s all a step toward showing Dwight Howard that changes are coming and he will be happy there long term. Foyle is a former player who Howard may relate better to. But it doesn’t change the fact the Magic need to get Howard to say he will sign an extension or say he wants out — they don’t want another season like the last one. If Howard isn’t going to re-sign, they have totrade him and not keep him around to the deadline and let that circus come back to town.

    Bad choice.

Did the interview take place in the Lakers’ sauna?

It’s clear by listing to Martins that the drama of last year won’t plague the team this coming season

Adonol would be a good hire for Orlando. Although his career stats as an NBA player were less than desired, his off the court accomplishments for supporting players, students, and children is second to none. Total humaitarian. He is a very smart guy and will do great at the job if he gets it. Hell… He graduated Magda Cum Laude.

Adonal is a scholar from Colgate university. Very likeable Dude that who is also the Warriors all time blocks leader. career wasn’t awful. Miami would love to have him now for what he was about 6 years ago.

The first question I would ask him is whether he wouldve drafted himself or not.

Humanitarian? Magna cum laud? On what basis would that work?

And isn’t it possible that D. Howard is the problem?

Adonal Foyle is a really good guy, but I think Orlando needs to think about if a rookie GM is the best candidate to steer them out of this self created sh*t storm. Did they really think Otis Smith’s problem was he didn’t relate to Dwight Howard? I’m pretty sure it was because he was a GM who handed an insane, cap strangling contract to Rashard Lewis & then decided acquiring other awful contracts was the way out of trouble. They’d be wise to make a run at Donnie Walsh, if just to show the franchise & other teams they’re serious about not being a joke of an organization. Then again, from everything I’ve seen happen over the years that would be a very un-Orlando Magic like move.

Donnie Walsh? Your kidding right? What he did for the Knicks is incredibly overrated. Any armchair GM would’ve got rid of a bunch of bad contracts to make a run at Lebron. He instead signed a guy for $100M and now that contract has come back to bite the Knicks.

I know im in the minority, but I think Otis Smith has done a pretty good job under the circumstances. Lewis was definitely overpaid, but I didnt hear any Magic fans complaining about that when he helped them make it to the Finals. Not every move he has made has been perfect, but Magic fans should look at what they were before his arrival and cut him some slack.

Not the best choice. He has no exp. as GM. The only plus is that he played backup center to Howard for a couple years before he retired.
