Pistons’ Ben Wallace reportedly on fence about retirement

Early in the season, Ben Wallace was saying this is it. Last season, his 15th, was going to be the veteran big man’s last one in the NBA. But as the season wore on that stance seemed to soften.

Right now, he is on the fence about what to do, according to long time teammate Tayshaun Prince. Here is what Prince said on NBA TV where he dropped by as an analyst, as transcribed by the Detroit Free Press.

“I think it is a situation where he is still thinking about it,” Prince said. “One side is telling him it is time to spend time with the family and relax a little bit, and then the other side is saying I still have more left in the tank.”

Wallace played 15.8 minutes per game, mostly off the bench for the Pistons and while he didn’t provide much offense (1.4 points per game) he was solid defensively. The Pistons likely would welcome him back on a one-year deal, although it would not be big money (well, by NBA standards).
