Knicks take interim tag off Glen Grunwald as general manager

Glen Grunwald has been doing the job since last June anyway, so the Knicks have decided to make it official.

Gone is the interim tag Grunwald had in front of general manager, reports Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated (via Sulia).

First in NY, where the Knicks removed the ‘interim’ status of Glen Grunwald and announced he is executive VP and general manager. Glen took over after Donnie Walsh unexpectedly resigned last June.

Moving from Walsh to Grunwald wasn’t a huge change of philosophy, Grunwald had been Walsh’s right hand man. They had brought in Mark Warkentien from Denver not long before the Carmelo Anthony trade. I’m sure that was just a coincidence. Why would you think otherwise? Grunwald and Warkentien work in tandem.

These guys have a tough job ahead of them — first they have to find a coach. Owner James Dolan will want a splashy hire, but when Phil Jackson turns them down do they go with current interim coach Mike Woodson or another direction? Then they have to round out the roster to fit the new coach’s style. That may include going after Steve Nash, but there will be other big names discussed as well. Knicks fans will call for Amare Stoudemire to be traded, but good luck moving that massive, uninsured contract.

Have fun Grunwald. At least now the job is fully yours.
