Ron Artest received a 7 game suspension for the vicious elbowing of James Harden of the Thunder. Since he “didn’t know or see who he elbowed because he was still celebrating” means: since he “didn’t know, he could have been elbowing Kobe. Now, if he had elbowed Kobe “because he felt someone there”. Artest would have been suspended till this time next year. Those of you who say Harden was leaning in have obviously not watched the replay over and over on every news, sports or sports commentary show. Ridiculous, inexcusable, and definitely not a long enough suspension since no one knows how serious Harden’s concussion might be.

Not a Laker fan but I always respected the organization. Now with thugs like MWP, Bynum and Barnes I think it would be hard to cheer for them if they were my team. I hope the Lakers turn it around and become a class team again but this is a different group of execs than in the past.

Two came suspension at the very most. And this only because the result was a blow to the head. If it hadn’t hit Harden’s head I’d say one game suspension. People let themselves be influenced by the commentators and Mike Breen or who ever it was started immediately judging Metta based on his opinion and how “disappointed he was the Metta was having a relapse”. Breen is a condescending idiot. I agree with a couple of comments above: What was Harden doing in Metta’s face like that after a made basket? Harden is a jerk, the new Bruce Bowen. And he’s following Perkin’s lead, who is one of the all-time jerks in NBA history. The Thunder are trying to play an intimidation game, have been since Perkins arrived. Personally, I was glad to see Harden get clocked. Not only was he out of line getting in Metta’s face but he was stupid to be messing with Metta anyway.

Eye connect would matter if your asking yourself about intention. Was his intention just to hit Harden or to hit Harden in the head? Again going back to the recent Heat vs Bulls game, James Jones had Noah in his eye site when he through a hockey style check at him. His intention was clear. He sized Noah up and wanted to deliver a punishing blow. Artest fells someone bumping into his side and throws an elbow not knowing where it would hit. Yes I know he shouldn’t have thrown it. But Harden shouldn’t have been bumping him like that either.

And what’s the difference between having the ball in your hand or not, swinging an elbow to clear space is all the same and it happens all the time. As far as the dirtiest player in the league ever, how long have you been watching the NBA? Cause I could make a list of players that could fight for that spot. And for the man you just called a piece (not peace) of crap for life, well he is the only player I’ve ever known of to sell his championship ring for charity. Not many if any of your classy players have ever done that!!!!

He wound up his arm all the way back. He didnt care where the elbow was going to land. He’s the dirtiest player in the league. Ever… At least Malone swung his elbows to clear space. He never wound it up and swung it after a score. If he landed that hit on hardens neck he could of killed him. Hell even that head shot can kill someone. Ban this peace of crap for life. He shld b punished, but 5 games is plenty. Rip Hamiltom was looking at Dirks head the nite b4, swung open fist and hit him in his shlder. He wasn’t fined or even thrown out. MWP never made eye contact with Harden. And to b totally fair, why did Harden run into MWP anyway? It was a inbound play, LA wasn’t pressing, so what, u run into coverage? 5 games is plenty

Look, it was intentional no doubt about it. But was it his intention to clock Harden in the face and knock him silly? No one knows, but I don’t believe it was. 6 inches lower and he would hit him in the back and just sent a strong playoff message. Watch the video clip again, it looks like Ron is going to trow his elbow in a downward motion but since Harden is trying to be all up on him it forces his elbow to go high. Let’s not forget what Hardens intent was getting the close to a celebrating Artest.

Well.. as someone who saw the Malice differently than anyone else (still do) I gotta say I am judging him for this incident only, and I don’t think he should play again this year. I’m having trouble not thinking it should be longer.

It’s a shame. IF the Lakers had a chance, he’d've been key; just like he was key to their second championship. But the league shouldn’t let that crap fly.

And Kurt: While I think you nailed it pretty good with the “intentional, but not premeditated” – knowing Harden’s mo (slowing a player in the backcourt), I wouldn’t put it past someone to try to “school him for it”.
