Delonte West fined $25,000 for “wet Willy” on Hayward

Apr 18, 2012, 4:21 PM EDT

We kind of expected  a fine was coming for the above stupidity by Delonte West. West has been fined $25,000 for giving Gordon Hayward a “wet Willy,” according to a tweet from Utah Jazz announcer David Locke.
There is no suspension, and this was not suspension worthy – especially since Hayward showed restraint and walked away despite his first inclination. Now, let us hope we never see this weirdness in the NBA again.

Did anyone in the video actually see him get his finger wet?

  7. sikeologist - Apr 18, 2012 at 5:21 PM

Hayward should’ve Falcon Punched him back.

This looks really bad on the refs. If he had done that to someone else like Meta Peace, benches would’ve been cleared and all kinds of nonsense. Stupid refs!

As long as he said “no h0m0″ it’s all good. Oh who am I kidding… This has Rafer Alston written all over it. Delonte might as well have kissed the dude.

What a joke! A $25,000 fine is an insult to Hayward. A suspension is definitely warranted.

  11. lofipatrick - Apr 18, 2012 at 8:19 PM

How about Hayward shoving West in the ear w/ his elbow after the previous possession at the beginning of the video?

    $25K for a wet willy?

    THAT is funny

The Wet willy is fun on level a, and the 25K is funny on level b, and the combination of the two takes us to a whole new universe.

    cool

I’ve never seen a site embellish so many headlines to get readers. I admit, it seems to work, although I have a skeptical eye whenever I read any headlines on this site. A “wet willy”? Really? It wasn’t even close to that. Just because you touch someone’s ear doesn’t make it a wet willy.

“Oh, we’re just quoting the tweet of the Jazz announcer.” This is the kind of half-ass journalism that passes as what actually happened.

What exactly are the playground rules on a wet Willy and where are they written down?

      • passerby23 - Apr 20, 2012 at 9:23 AM

A wet willy – as the name implies – is WET! It’s when you wet (lick) your finger and shove it in someone’s ear. Just poking a guy’s ear with your finger is not a wet willy.

You really need it written down to understand it? Where is it written down in hockey to go after an “enforcer” for bothering your star player? It’s not, but it’s well understood.

25k is a lot for a wet willy without juice on it…
