Ray Allen is the definition of moron…look in Wikipedia, his picture is there.

Hate to tell ya pal, but when you play for your country, you do it for pride. You represent your country, free of charge…Bird did it, Magic did it, Jordan did it. And you think you’re better than they are? Hate to tell ya, but you’re not. Plain and simple.

If you get the offer to play for the USA..do America a favor, and decline it. You MAY be able to save face, but I sincerely doubt it.

The only folks who should be making a profit during the Olympics are the citizens in and around the site, that has to put up with the tens if not hundreds of thousands of spectators. And that’s simply because increased customer’s = increased profit. Beyond that, money should never be the ultimate goal of the Olympics unless it’s raising funds for charity, or some other humanitarian effort.

I think legislation should be made in the IOC, that prohibits all parties from simply sitting back and reaping profits, but committing two wrongs (paying players and allowing companies to reap profits over things like Jersey’s) doesn’t make a right.

I’ll now choose to root for Ray Allen to miss every shot he takes for the remainder of his career. You, Ray, are the anti-patriot. I hope you’re never again given the honor of wearing the letters “USA” across your chest. Besides, America doesn’t need you. I’d take my chances with Kentucky’s top six players and rounding them out with other college All-AMERICANS, rather than put an idiot like Ray Allen out there representing our country.

To everyone disagreeing with Ray Allen on this, I have a question for you -

Why do you think it’s ok for business executives and other people responsible for making those Olympic jerseys to make a profit off of the jerseys that get sold, but it’s not ok for the players themselves to get a piece of that pie?

I say either donate 100% of the profits from Olympic jersey sales to charities, or give the players some of those profits.

The players should get a percentage from jersey ,poster, apparel, etc. They don’t need a ton of money, because you never want to get into having USA basketball having to negotiate with guys on pay. You do want players who want the honor of representing USA in the Olympics.

It’d be really funny if Bradley beat him out for a spot on the Olympic team too, not that I think Ray has any interest or intent on trying out for the squad (which should be readily apparent from his comments). But, if they were in such a situation, it’d be pretty humorous to see him lose the starting gig to Bradley, and his spot on the Olympic team as well.

Either way, I’m sure any coach on the Olympic team would have no interest in Allen now, regardles of his stats. I wouldn’t want that kind of selfishness infecting the team.

While he’s not necessarily in the wrong for his stance regarding taking the Olympics off to rest his body after a deep playoff run (if he needs the rest, take it. Obviosuly the season takes a toll on these athletes’ bodies, especially the older ones). That being said, he’s an entitled idiot for saying ‘he should get paid’.

What about all the other athletes in the Olympics? None of them get paid. The Olympics aren’t about money. It’s about national pride.

If rest was so important for his body, than he wouldn’t take part in the Olympics, EVEN IF HE WAS PAID. The fact that he’d only go if he were paid shows that ultimately, he’s just too lazy to represent his country or doesn’t care for it, unless you pay him more money to play a game for a month than most people earn in their entire lifetime.
Obviously this isn’t about rest, it’s about entitlement. Ray doesn’t like the thought of him being obligated to represent his country. Ray doesn’t owe anybody anything, unless you are willing to pay him the big bucks.
