Mickael Pietrus returns for Celtics (but Ray Allen out)

On top of everything else seeming to go right for the Celtics, we have more good news — Mickael Pietrus returned for the team Wednesday night against Atlanta.

But just because the karma in the universe must balance out, Ray Allen is out again for Boston with the same sore ankle that has bothered him and forced him to miss some games for weeks.

But let’s focus on the positive. Pietrus had been out with a concussion since he had to be carted off the court on March 24 and he was not expected back until the playoffs, but he cleared all the hurdles and played for the Celtics Wednesday. Here is what coach Doc Rivers said before the game, via A. Sherrod Blakely at CSNNE.com.

“We’re not going to play him much,” Rivers said. “Maybe 5, 10 minutes. But he’s been cleared. He worked out yesterday. This is good to ease him in instead of just throwing him in. That’s how we’re going to do it. The sooner we can get him on the floor, the better….

“I didn’t expect to see him, maybe this year,” Rivers said. “So anything is good. I’m very surprised.”

The more concerning issue is Allen, who keeps aggravating his ankle injury. Rivers said he expects Allen to be able to go against the Raptors Friday, but they want to get this right.

Getting Pietrus back helps, it gives Rivers some options.
