Video: Blake Griffin just destroys Pau Gasol… twice

Apr 5, 2012, 12:24 AM EDT

RIP Pau Gasol.

Blake Griffin is a tough cover for anybody in the league, but particularly Gasol — Griffin plays an aggressive, attacking game using his great strength and athleticism. Gasol is smarter, more fundamental than you. (And spare me the Gasol is soft stuff, or did you not watch him defend Dwight Howard in the NBA finals to a standstill. He’s tougher than you are.)

If Griffin can use his strength it is no contest — and it was no contest. Griffin just destroyed Gasol twice on Wednesday night. Destroyed. (Yes, that is an offensive foul with the clear out in the top video, but it’s not if it isn’t called.)

Hat tip to for the videos.

Too bad dunks are only worth 2 points.

    • velascochad - Apr 5, 2012 at 1:24 AM

yeah and the last one was an offensive foul. the first one was nasty though.

      • allmyteamsareterrible - Apr 5, 2012 at 9:56 AM

I can not for the life of me understand how that is not called. It was a blatant forearm shiver to the face. I am a fan of the Cavaliers so I really do not have a dog in the fight, but damn, call a foul that was ludicrous.

      • mightyquinn69 - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:32 AM

Both were fouls! First over the back or Gasol, and the other was an elbow to the face. So when Blake gets taken down really hard. He will deserve it!

  2. trybe29dr - Apr 5, 2012 at 12:37 AM

Cakemix is a hater…dunks were awesome man just admit it

  3. mytthor - Apr 5, 2012 at 12:49 AM

Not only was it an offensive foul, but it also should have been a T for Griffin standing there posturing staring at Gasol on the ground. Act like you’ve been there before, Blake.

    • dannymac17 - Apr 5, 2012 at 9:20 AM

he has, and it stood and looked at perkins as well.

he just ate that mans soul, and here you are “someone give him a t!!!”

    • mightyquinn69 - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:35 AM

Well, he always look back at it when the Clunkers are sitting at home once again.

    • juanandonly24 - Apr 5, 2012 at 2:47 PM

And then Blake Griffin wonders why he gets whacked so hard. Come playoff time, he’s gonna be whining at EVERY single little foul.

  4. thebigkahuna23 - Apr 5, 2012 at 1:11 AM

Um did you guys see those dunks. Both amazing and both times he absolutely took Gasol’s manhood. So what if they lost the game. That’s what the NBA is about…right?

My only complaint is he had bad form. The “I just schooled you” taunt is done by folding both arms across your chest, leaning back, and tilting your head to the side while making the “Come on boy you know better than to get in my grill while I’m dunking” face. And then of course you put your arms above your head and ask what’s up.

  5. storebrandcookies - Apr 5, 2012 at 1:15 AM

Lol. Pau’s face on :19 of the second video. Both dunks were filthy. Top ten on SC for the next week?

  6. thespungos - Apr 5, 2012 at 1:27 AM

Wow those dunks were crazy. What was the final score?

  7. perryplayer1 - Apr 5, 2012 at 1:28 AM

They still got the W though. Griffin==most overrated player in the association!

    • iskuterista - Apr 9, 2012 at 10:03 PM

Is he? I thought fans love the guy only for these highlights.

  8. vikingsinla - Apr 5, 2012 at 1:36 AM

Dunks = 2 points, non-stop idiotic PBT articles by idiotic PBT “journalists”!!!!one!
Inability to hit free throws = fouled incessantly, you hurt your team by playing!
PBT = dunks, LOL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>free throws and/or free playoffs. Because Shaquille O/Neal, somehow! LOL! Griffin dunked on someone, LOL!!!! Autofail.

  9. truebball - Apr 5, 2012 at 1:53 AM

Apparently folks are just amazed about dunks, taunting and not the fundamentals of the game. I am disappointed also at Mr Kurt Helin just to get attention is such bogus headlines and thats shows what a true writer you are all about.
Everyone knows two dunks were offensive fouls and taunting and thats why Blake Griffin will get the attention and will get hurt because of his reckless play. No one is allowed, if there are true fundamentals basketball fans, allowed to fan off or straight arm another player to get leverage or clearance to get a dunk. The referees were spectators tonight and as usual NBA Stern Loser Referees!!!! . Over the back…impressive but still a FOUL and UNSPORTMANSHIP conduct and if I were the referee I would have T Blake Griffin up. That is why fundamentals and the game of basketball is won by a team and not by spectacular one on one and dunks….impressive but leave it at Kindergarten??? Oh did they finish their GED???

  10. thevza - Apr 5, 2012 at 3:02 AM

Blake has two dunks… and Pau has two rings. Clippers lost tonight. Winner = Pau.

    • mightyquinn69 - Apr 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM

      And you know this…MAN!!!

  11. davecotuit - Apr 5, 2012 at 4:42 AM

the idiot lakers may have won the game but, boy, was it ever great to see gasol eat the dust!!!

    • Mr. Wright 212 - Apr 5, 2012 at 11:27 AM

      Do you hear yourself?

      • davecotuit - Apr 6, 2012 at 5:39 AM

you bet i hear myself and I LIKE WHAT I HEAR!!!!

  12. fouldwimmerlaik - Apr 5, 2012 at 7:24 AM

I appreciate a facial highlight reel regardless of who the player is and his victim. But that forearm style of Blake is tantamount to getting an offensive foul: he was using his forearm to ward off the defensive player.

Me impressed? The put-back slam – sure! Of course! But the other one? Not at all.

  13. sell1200 - Apr 5, 2012 at 7:43 AM

Looked like a offensive foul to me, but yeah he can dunk. 5’10 guys in high school can too. He’s 6″whatever! Does he score(consistantly),does he play D?

  14. tsi431 - Apr 5, 2012 at 7:58 AM

I see 2 offensive fouls. The first one with the forearm/elbow to the face of Gasol and the second is the poster child of over the back. How either was not called is just embarrassing to the refs.

    • Kurt Helin - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:18 AM

They were offensive fouls. So were the dunks on Mozgov and Perkins.

  15. loungefly74 - Apr 5, 2012 at 8:05 AM

omg…check out Bynum’s face/reaction. it’s priceless! it’s that same look/laugh you do when you see your buddy get slapped/rejected trying to pick up a chick at a bar or something. hahahaha!

  16. baron30 - Apr 5, 2012 at 8:43 AM

i really dont see how you think that the first dunk is an offensive foul….Yes blake did clear out but Gasol is the one who initiated that contact by leaving his feet while in the restricted area and jumping at griffin. Blake was already airborne.

  17. pistolpete0903 - Apr 5, 2012 at 8:54 AM

Loungefly…was going to point out that. Bynum’s reaction was funny.

The 1st dunk should have been an offensive foul.
And Griffin wonders why players are getting physical with him.

    • loungefly74 - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:14 AM

i keep replaying his reaction. its great!

yeah, i can see how both dunks could be offensive fouls but…it is what it is…and the only thing to do is move on. my household loves gasol, he is great, i just hope he a has short term memory and moves on from this experience. the best revenge would be to beat the clipshow in the playoffs…and give blake a facial.

  18. atom665 - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:21 AM

So Griffin can clear out by smashing people in the face and all is fine but when the cat in New Orleans took him down people cry. F@ck Griffin. He’s a one note punk and I pray he get leveled on a dunk attempt by someone throwing their forearm into his face. Oh, Bynum is a punk too. He should be there to hit BG J.J Barea style.

  19. losangelasbasketball - Apr 5, 2012 at 10:38 AM

    Perkins, Mozgof, and now Gasol….
Blake is no regard for human life…

  20. mikeewright7 - Apr 5, 2012 at 12:33 PM

you guys are some Blake griffin Haters lol idc if it was foul or not
I was still in front of the TV like “DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN he just got dunk on”
and i know you guys were too

  21. bravecapeproductions - Apr 5, 2012 at 2:45 PM

They were dunks. Yahoo! They were also fouls.
But mostly Griffin is the dirtiest player in the NBA.
He gets great shots so many times, but he also acts like he’s playing on the streets on New York.

  22. pbanach01 - Apr 5, 2012 at 3:08 PM

Wow that is gross. If Blake keeps posing like that he will get his ass knocked over jason smith style more and more though. Both could have been offensive fouls but you could say that for a lot of big dunks. Either way it’s always cool to see extreme athleticism but it’s only two points. Put the ball through the hoop and move on. Keep posing and more and more people will hate you.

  23. pbanach01 - Apr 5, 2012 at 3:12 PM

@atorn665 I agree fully! someone is going to really f*ck him up if he keeps looking around like a b*tchass. Again I appreciate the athleticism but these are all professionals here. Keep embarrassing them by making stupid faces and stare downs and you will get smashed sooner or later. How he was not t’d up for the first dunk is a joke. Lucky his boy pushed him away. Being hyped and staring people down the first 20 times you flush on someone is understandable. But it is getting to the point where not only is it annoying but there will be some more retaliation. I hate the Lakers but this is making me hate the Clips even more.

  24. lyndseymarieee - Apr 5, 2012 at 9:40 PM

Blake griffin is such a one trick pony. I am over hearing about who he dunked on this week. that’s all he’s been doing for the past two seasons. yes, griffin is a great athlete. freakishly strong. but I think he has the potential to become a good outside shooter. definitely not three’s but within the 10-15 foot range. If he masters this as well as keeping up his inside game, not only will he live up to the hype but the clippers could truly become a force to be reckoned with.

  25. davecotuit - Apr 6, 2012 at 5:37 AM

you got that right babe and i think it s already starting to happen, ie, about the 10-15 foot range.
