<<>>

Are you kidding me?? WTF?!?!?! MOST of these kids GO to college prep high schools. Dont give me that crap about a difficult situation and few resources!! I grew up in that SAME type of difficult situation (in Chicago on the west side) and EVERYTHING starts with the parents! If they WANT their child to go to college then he CAN go! Financial Aid actually IS available for kids in tough sitches. So they get to college and have to pay off college loans? Hey, if they get drafted, those loans will get paid off by the time they play their first game! These kids have the wrong person in their ears to begin with....whether its the mom or dad, or the AAU coach or just that big brother or uncle from across the tracks that sees that the kid has some skills and decides that he wants to be the family agent so the uncle can get in on some riches! How about some of these guys that went straight to the league and didnt even know how to write a friggin check, until their 4th year in the league.....(*ahem*.....KG....*cough*)!!

<<>>

REALLY? This guy who wrote that article SERIOUSLY wants to go that route? Try waiting until Calipari leaves...THEN see what happens! Just like at his last two stops! Sure, Kentucky will catch UCLA for about 4-5 months then get those championships vacated! What then? Listen, I am NO great basketball athlete and yeah, these guys back then, and even now, can take me to the hoop and destroy my reputation as a decent hoops player (I actually played football all my life so I never really liked bball, but anyway...) so I am not going to try to down a players choices. What I am trying to say is DO NOT use the excuse of these kids not having a chance at getting an education! They're there, arent they? So why not make them work?!?!?! They always talk about the football players going to college and I quote: "This guy is going to major in either swimming pool management or underwater basket weaving, and then go into the NFL draft!"

I know that its a toss up whether you get a LeBron or a Darius Miles....FINE! But dont say that they dont have a chance, or the resources to go to college, AND ACTUALLY TRY and get an education. I dont even watch that much basketball anymore just because of the thug mentality that runs rampant in the league. Guys running down court after the make a good shot or play and then throw up gang signs? If you dont believe me, go to youtube and search it. C'mon man! It makes no damn sense!

Why not allow a player graduating from high school to test the waters through the draft? If he doesn't merit selection, play overseas, or sign to a development league roster they enroll and play in college. Mimic the NFL's three year requirement.

This would allow for a true student-athlete experience, allow truly excellent talent to prosper, and improve the level of collegiate play.

There's nothing wrong with the one and done rule applying to the NBA and college basketball players. The NBA are willing to pay these talented players for their services. What rights does anyone have telling these adults they can't pursue their career at the age of 19? If you can join the military and die for your country at 18, why can't you pursue your dream career?
