He was VP of Basketball Operations so he may not have done well with personnel, but anybody who can take a team whose best players both missed about 20 games and whose said best two players were named Keith Van Horn and Jayson Williams can coach. He got quite a bit out of marginal talent, especially in the front court. Van Horn was a stretch four before stretch fours were the rage, and the back up bigs were the likes of Chris Gatling, 36-year old Michael Cage, 32 year old Rony Seikaly and 34 year old Xavier McDaniel.

But most of this jabber about Calipari not being a quality coach is nonsense. Get some talent and he’ll win, that’s the way it works in the NBA.
