I agree – plus, if you’re fining guys, it hits the pocket books. AND, the league office could use replays to determine whether a guy flopped or not. It could get dicey if you’re trying to determine live whether a guy flopped or not.

Are you REALLY commenting a DUKE player about flopping?? They are the kings of flopping! The refs shouldn’t call fouls, turnovers, or anything against floppers. They should just walk over to them while they lay on the floor, and kick them in the head, hand them a towel, and say, “wipe the sweat off the floor when you get up”

Billups is the king of it. Throwing his head back, flailing his arms, kicking his legs when no one even touches him (in some cases).

LeBron and Wade verbal flop all the time as well.

Allen Iverson was one of the first to really abuse it. Every time he drove to the hole you would hear “OH!!!!!!!” whenever he got into traffic.

These guys just take it to a new level.

Chris Paul is the biggest flop artist period, because he egregiously does it on both ends.

I don’t like more rules, especially for flopping. Sometimes flopping is the result of a guy being bodied around, not getting a call, and having to resort to “selling” the play to finally get a call. Sometimes it’s actually a foul, but the player overdramatizes it. Does that negate the call? I don’t want to see a game being decided by a tech for a “questionable” flop. Maybe fines for flopping, but not techs. It would just get out of control.

I couldn’t agree more. The way games are called and the bailouts guys get for just attacking the bodies of defenders (cough Lebron) only increases the tendency for defenders to flop to finally get a call. Guys driving to the basket act like they have the right of way when attacking the hoop, and the game is often called like this nowadays too. It makes defending these guys practically impossible given the status quo, leading to ugly, forced offense. I got off topic, but the way the game is officiated (not even mentioning palming and traveling) has destroyed what should be something much more natural.

Back to the point: I like the idea of calling technical fouls for flops either way. Free throw and possession for non flopping team. It’d be hard to regulate but should only be used for the most obvious cases.

I’ve been saying the same thing for years.

Dwayne Wade is more guilty of flopping than any defensive player in the league.

Except for one man. Paul Pierce. That guy drives me nuts. At least Wade flops while aggressively attacking the basket. Pierce screams when he’s 30 feet away from the basket, running around a pick. It’s the classic Pierce move. Have a guy set a pick for you, run straight into the hedger, and then fall down and scream. It happens every time. Doesn’t matter if it’s Early Boykins being the hedger.

Did Battier really single out Scola? The dude averages 3 free throws a game this year with a career high of 3.9 a game. Every knows he flops of the defensive end but not on the offensive.

One sport with an (arguably) worse flopping problem than hoops is soccer. So imagine the big grin on my face when I saw a player in the Champions League (of all places) pull an utterly obvious flop…and the ref walked up and hit him with a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct. If the NBA’s refs T up a few of the obvious floppers, it might help with this situation.

Flopping is part of the game at every level, and I have no problem with it. Dare I say that the refs might have to step up their game and recognize a flop and not call it.
