Knicks fans, remember when Rick Pitino traded Mark Jackson and kept Rod Strickland and Patino supposedly had Jackson’s back? How did that work out, anyway? Mark Jackson is 3rd all time leader in assists and Strickland was traded eventually.
The Knicks haven’t done it right (really) since then, they’ve had some runs but not impressive enough for a b-ball town like NYC. I say keep Lin at the point and let him direct the traffic. Lin had 19 points and Melo was very happy about the “team win!!!”. Just remember that tweet from Melo, “TEAM WIN!!!”

Let it grow, let it it grow! But a message to Melo and Stoudemire: don’t get caught up in that “black” thing by playing harder for
Woodson because of that “he’s one of us” (I’m one of “us”, too because that would be total b.s.); black people, y’all know what I’m talkin’ about.

Last thing on Mike Woodson’s approach:

He will get the Knicks to the playoffs, don’t get me wrong. They may go this year. Mike Woodson is a good coach. But he likes vets.

As long as Lin plays well into his system, he can get off the pine. He has to know that Woody likes the put the ball into his guys- Amare and Anthony. They are the big moneymen and that’s who he’s going to trust with the game on the line.

Nothing could be better for the NBA than the rightful death of that Lin-Stupid Lin-Sanity! Man I’m laughing at how many Lin-Ept jerseys will now go unsold after this pathetic excuse of an NBA star has finally been exposed for what he really is, a bench warmer. Lin-Ept had better hope he can get a real job using his Economics degree because his NBA career is almost over. Oh well just goes to show how simple it is to impress Knicks fans, simple things amuse simple minds!

Phil Jackson isn’t going to come out of retirement to coach a team that has no chance at a title. What’s the benefit for him other than money (which he has plenty of)?

Lin or no Lin the Knicks need to find a way to get Phil Jackson to coach this team. New York needs this for 2 reasons. First and foremost Jackson is the only coach that can manage this line up and its personalities. The Knicks need Phil Jackson the zen master. Secondly Tex Winter’s triangle offense is the only thing that is going to maximize all the pieces the Knicks have and since Tex is pushing 90 Phil Jackson is the next best thing.

Look, coach Woodson’s system is going to work for Carmelo Anthony we all know that but how good did it work for Atlanta? Furthermore it’s wasting talent. Think of TC not getting alley-opps, Amar’e not doing damage off ball movement into the low-post. Speaking of ball movement Baron Davis and Jeremy Lin not even getting a chance to move the ball. Woodson is going to leave NY with J.R. and Mello chucking up mid-range after mid-range followed by the occasional 3 here and there. It will work fine if they are shooting well but that doesn’t happen every night in the NBA. Wasting talent also shouldn’t happen in the NBA. I am not saying Lin is great, he never was and people blew his game out of proportion, but Lin is a decent point.

The triangle will allow all the parts to utilize their talents.You can have Tyson and Amar’e working down low like an Odem/Bynum/Gasol/Cartwright/Horace Grant kind of thing you can have JR Smith jacking up shots from the corners. Mello playing the Jordan/Kobe role, got to be good for his ego. Lin would need to work on his shot some but running the Triangle is a lot better than running some junk that just feeds the shooters at the expense of everyone else.

If they can’t get Phil the Knicks should hire Dr. Phil to coach the team because that looker room is going to need a shrink to keep it in order. Then just go out and get Brian Shaw. Ideally get Phil Jackson and Shaw.

The P.S. isn’t necessarily true. Jeff Teague got hardly no playing time when Woody was Head Coach. And he didn’t start while Bibby was there and wasn’t the true PG until Woody left.

If Woody was still here, Teague would still be on the bench. Woody likes vets.

No sane person thinks that the Knicks are better when Jeremy Lin is the key player than when Carmelo Anthony is.

Melo’s one of the top six players in this league (in some order: Kobe, LeBron, Rose, Wade, Durant, Melo) of course playing a system that maximizes that talent is going to make the Knicks better. Gallo, even Steve Novak were perfect small forwards for D’Antoni’s system. I don’t blame him or Carmelo – I blame Dolan for forcing the two to try and mesh.

As the song goes “you say it best when you say nothing at all.” Woodson said nothing at all about the guy who put the Knicks back into contention.

Sure Woodson is just a pawn in this game, and he doesn’t have any choice but to run the offense through Melo because Knicks management and Melo want that. But, since everybody knows that he’s going to have to do that, the smart thing to do with his team would be to stress how good Lin is and how much of a contribution he can still make. It’s only words, but it makes a big difference to the team’s motivation. Did he do that? No, so Woodson failed his first test.

Not a fan of the whole “Linsanity” circus show BUT to say BD, Douglass, or Bibby gives you a better chance at winning games, you are a moron.

Oh yea, MSG’s value DOUBLED when Lin was getting the bulk of the minutes. James Dolan has that burned into his brain. We all know Dolan always has and always will run the show in NY.

There is absolutely NOTHING in this article that says that Woodson is unhappy with Lin. There’s :

1. A quote about Melo and STAT having “done it before”

2. A quote that says the Knicks have young players “still figuring it out”

3. Kurt telling me “how I should read it”

4. A quote from “a person who has worked with Woodson” which basically says he likes veterans.

P.S., Woodson is the coach who sat Bibby in Atlanta in favor of the younger, inexperienced, better player in Jeff Teague.

Woodson doesn’t have a say in personnel matters. He’s just a temp coach. But here is the real conflict for the ownership: Melo costs a lot of money because of contract…Lin makes the team tons of money because of Linsanity (MSG stock, team ticket sales, advertising, tv, merchandising, etc). I can’t reconcile how they deal with this and everything you mentioned about Woodson. Eliminate Linsanity and lose tons of money. Woodson will be hearing from the owner real soon if what you say is true.

Mike Woodson is a good coach. He just have his style. I mean, if you run the offense through the star player, then he keeps his job because that’s why stars make so much money. Go and ask Mike D’Antoni what happens when your star player doesn’t get the rock…

That being said, around the 2nd round of the playoffs, his players simply stops listening to him. It happens every year in Atlanta. They just try to tune him out and play in spite of him.

Oh, and not only is Linsanity dead, it’s buried far under the bench. Jeremy Lin is nobody to Mike Woodson. He’s too young. If he can’t give up the rock to Anthony and Amare… and I mean quickly. And screen… he may not even be a Knick next year. Woodson would trade Lin for Derek Fisher straight up.

I just got back from an Asia trip for work (China, Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan) and there was Jeremy Lin stuff everywhere! Jerseys, magazine covers, etc. The NBA need some Asian starters. Right now Lin is the only Asian player in the NBA.

If Woodson can run a similar offense as he did in Atlanta (which I hated, personally, but won him some games nonetheless) with an obvious upgrade from Joe Johnson to Carmelo Anthony, with an overall team composed not all too different from the one he had in Atlanta, i think it could work in the short term. I can’t think of a more fitting player to run the iso better than Anthony. It’ll be good for a playoff series or two.
