Deron Williams makes it clear he will become free agent

Ultimately, Dwight Howard wanted to stay in Orlando and — after a couple days of ridiculous flip-flopping — he decided to “opt in.” (Technically he waived his right to opt-out of his contract, but we’ll go with opt-in.) Dwight Howard has a loyalty to Orlando that overcame everything else.

Deron Williams has no such loyalty to New Jersey.

The day after Howard’s decision, Williams was asked if he would opt-in with the Nets. At least he didn’t laugh outright. But this is pretty close. Here are the tweets from Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Deron Williams tells the Daily News: “I will not op-in. Its not monkey see, monkey do.”

So to clarify, Deron says he will definitely become a free agent after the season and weigh his options

Somewhere, Mark Cuban involuntarily smiled.

Williams has kept quiet this season and not talked about wanting to be traded or who the Nets needed to get to keep him. As best he could he stayed out of the spotlight.

Sorry Nets fans, he’s as good as gone. He’s going to opt out for sure and is a good bet to sign in his home town of Dallas next season. Which makes the Nets trade-deadline move to get Gerald Wallace — a trade meant to bolster the team in the short term — makes no sense. They gave up their first-round pick. This is a deep draft, the Nets could have gotten a good player. Instead they got Wallace, a player who also can opt-out after the season.

The new Barclay Center in Brooklyn better be stunning, because it will need to distract Nets fans from the team next season, they are going to be awful.

wow if he wound up somehow going to the magic that would be hilarious…it would suck for the nets but be hilarious for everyone else…you saw this coming a mile away though and the nets should have had a backup plan to unload him if they couldn’t get howard…now they’ll lose williams wallace and what will probably be a top 7 pick in one of the deepest drafts in awhile…total fail

A lot of y’all know there are more places to live/play then NY and LA right? Just because they’re big markets doesn’t mean everybody is falling over themselves to move there. There are a lot of people from the south, midwest and west that have no interest in living in either of those place

Funny how a guy called ezmagic says he’s going to the magic! Must have an inside credible source close to the situation and not just another moron fan that thinks every free agent should just go to his team

  6. steelersredsoxnation - Mar 16, 2012 at 10:49 PM

Oh and then just assume everybody will take the garbage from your team for draft picks!

I’m a suns fan so dwill should go to phx and they just can trade Nash and hill for 2 first round picks and a future 2nd rounder….yea makes total sense!

Deron Williams is a whining crybaby who is never happy. He was a jerk at Utah and a real shame that he caused coach Jerry Sloan to retire prematurely in disgust with Deron’s childish, selfish whines. Deron doesn’t deserve to be in the NBA and deriding Deron should be the only way he’s treated by NBA fans. It’s way past time to stop mollycoddling these whining prima donnas whose only loyalty is to themselves instead of their teams and fans.

    Deron Deserves Derision!

Yea, one of the top 2-3 pgs in the league doesn’t belong in the NBA. Lebron and Dwight don’t have childish moments do they?
