Stan Van Gundy has had it with the Dwight Howard rumors

Stan Van Gundy knows the Orlando Magic have a huge problem on their hands.

No, not the one you’re thinking of. He’s thinking of tonight’s game against the Miami Heat. And in his pregame press conference the Magic coach was on fire about all the rumors — like the one that Howard was told if he signs an extension with the Magic he can choose the coach and general manager.

Here are his quotes, via the twitter of Ethan Skolnick of the Palm Beach Post.

“I really don’t give a damn about getting fired… Wade, James and Bosh, that scares me a lot more than any rumor about getting fired.”

Van Gundy also mocked the Orlando Sentinel’s Dwight Howard trade deadline countdown clock and the whole trend of rumors in the media (“That’s a great profession. You never have to be right. And you still get to keep your job.”)

Just for good measure, there is this quote about ESPN’s Jon Barry calling Van Gundy Coach of the Year:

“That’s very nice of Jon and that also shows he’s not the top analyst.”

I love Stan Van Gundy press conferences. The good news for him is one way or another this will all be over in less than 48 hours.

Don’t worry Stan, you will be on TV soon with your bro.

Do Orlando fans really not like him as their coach? Cause he seems like he’d be a blast to have around.

im an Orlando fan and think he is the best. todays report of Dwight maybe choosing to can him made me sick. best win % in the playoffs and reg season in Magic history…2 eastern conference finals and 1 finals appearance in 4 years…also very responsible for Dwight becoming the defensive monster he is. anyone who doesnt like him, as a magic fan, isn’t really a magic fan

I’m a long time Magic fan and just love Van Gundy. I like his style and he is a straight shooter no bs. That’s why the premadonna players don’t like him

How can you not like Stan Van Jeremy?

In all honesty, Stan Van Gundy was one of the best college basketball coaches I’ve ever seen. He should’ve stay at Wisconsin. When he finally ends his NBA coaching stint, he should go back to the college ranks where he can go back to teaching the game, instead of dealing with all the non-basketball nonsense that has become the norm for NBA coaches.

From the NBA lockout (or whatever it was), to Dictator Stern vetoing the CP3 deal, and finally to this Howard crap, I’m absolutely sick and tired of the NBA!! Now I’m kinda wishing the whole season had been lost.

i always felt he got shafted by that sleaze ball Riley. He deserves better than all the crap he takes.

Can somebody tell me why Otis Smith is so revered as a GM by DeVos? What has he done as GM to earn the level of commitment he seems to be getting? Signing Gilbert Arenas? Signing Hedu? I mean, I get that he does a ton of quality work for local city youth programs and is generally a good guy, but he’s not Jerry West. He’s basically been given a blank checkbook to spend whatever he wanted over the past 6 seasons, and his decisions have backed this franchise into a financial corner to a level that only Isaiah Thomas can appreciate.

to be fair he traded for both on the downside, not sure which is better.

Once upon a time many years ago i used to love to watch the NBA.

But that was YEARS ago. The thugs and the punks who play the game today have taken all the fun, all the joy out of it.

So now in the past week, the Magic beat my Bulls in Chicago and the Heat in Orlando. Does this give Dwight or the front office any pause on a move?

I’d LOVE for him to coach my team.
    - Knicks fan.
