“Traded” is just another word for “bought”, the currency being players instead of straight cash. Either way, they didn’t draft the players, they BOUGHT them in the trade market (with McHale bending over for his former team and selling out the team that was paying his salary, the TWolves).

For me I’d almost always rather have the player where I know what I;m getting rather than the potential of an unknown. Kanter has been good, but he’s easily the best player that went over and in the absolute best case scenario he doesn’t come close to the play D-Will is. Harris was an AS the year before, but was pretty terrible the year they dealt him, has been pretty terrible this year, and everything I’ve heard from radio and news sites is that they would move him for a weak 1st round, or second round pick. Favors hasn’t been anywhere near the player they thought they were getting when they drafted him, though he’s still young. (Side note: can we talk about how terrible that draft is looking?)

If D-Will walks and the Nets get nothing fo him they were easily ripped off, but if they can keep him (and keeping him means getting D-12 so essentially the trade was for Deron Williams and the ante to get into the Dwight Howard sweepstakes) then giving up Kanter, a PG who will be a bench player on just about any team, and a, to this point, underperforming Derrick Favors, I got no problem with the deal.

If Celts can trade Ray Allen to Clips for Mo Williams, moving Rondo becomes more feasible.

Maybe Rondo for Chris Kaman and New Orleans lottery pick…

If Celts miss the playoffs this year, next years team to start the season could be
Mo Williams
Paul Pierce
Jeff Green
Garnett
Kaman
and two lottery picks…
Maybe next year trade Garnett for a first rounder…

Celts need picks to rebuild…They aren’t getting lottery picks for Allen, Pierce, or Garnett (teams in the lottery don’t trade those picks for aged veterans).

Just a thought…cause the Celts need to make some kind of move…

The only ways to rebuild are to get free agents or high draft picks.

The only way to sign big name free agents is to be under the salary cap.

Pierce/Allen/Garnett/Rondo have big contracts. To trade them, Celts would have to take a big contract back- that’s league trade rules- salaries of traded players have to match within 25%. They can’t get under the cap easily or quickly- they will have to take back bad players or bad contracts.

That leaves rebuilding thru picks. Rondo is the only player the Celtics can trade for a lottery pick.
Lottery teams are not gonna take/trade lottery picks for Garnett/Pierce/Allen.
So, if you wanna rebuild thru draft, you may have to trade Rondo…

And, it usually takes 5-7 years to rebuild. Rondo will be in his 30′s by then, and probably near the end of his career. So, it kinda makes sense to trade him now…

Perkins is garbage. Listen, the cletics lost last year for one reason- Miami. They hit shots and whooped the celts in the 4th of every game. Perk is the most overrated player of all time. He legit stinks. Anyone who really knows the game can see this, and this is why he was traded. I am so sick of people saying Perk is good….can I have some of those drugs????

how did they buy a title when they actually traded for every starter on their team? Just when I thought you had a clue(Doc is NOT a good coach) you say a comment like that. Miami- they bought a team. Boston gave up assets to attain more assets, and won a title, lost a title, and also make it to a confernce final game 7 w/out their best player.

you really think the celtics are giving up a 26 year old star w/3 years left at a good value for Scola and Lowery? No way. They would be better off keeping him and rolling the dice in free agency. Rondo, Oneal and a 1st for Gasol makes more sense.

Rickey, you are right on the money. See those 51 thumbs down? Clueless. Here is what is REALLY happening with that deal- The Celts and Warriors were close in December, but the Warriors got cold feet and pulled out. In the last 2 weeks, Golden State has changed their stance and are willing to move him to Boston, but now the Celtics are worried about his ankles. So yes, Rondo for Curry could happen, but I think the Celtics are trying to trade Rondo for a big. He WILL get traded, I can pretty much guarantee that.

I am so sick of hearing about teams “buying” a title. I hate the Celtics, but jeeze, give it a rest. There’s a salary cap, all the teams are owned by billionaires (except the hornets) they can all afford to spend what they want to win. Just because your owner chose not to doesn’t mean it’s bad when other owners do. Show me the team that won the championship with people playing for free.

Would you have traded Kwame Brown and Nate Robinson for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic? Because Perkins and Brown are almost the exact same basketball player.

Brown 6’11 270- good low post defender 6 pts, 6 boards, 11.33 per
Perkins 6’10 270 – good low post defender 4 points, 6 boards 7.11 per

Ainge got a good young player in Green(who they will resign) for an over-hyped center. He got a good deal.

I am not a Celtic fan so can somebody who is explain to me why they would shop this guy? Sure his jump shot isn’t great but those triple doubles look good, and he’s a proven NBA champion. I need an actual Celtic fan to explain this please.

Really? I think the Nets gave up more for D-Will. Harris was an All-Star point guard the year before they traded him, They gave up the 3rd overall pick in Favors, and gave up an unprotected pick in last years draft which turned into Kanter (i believe, haven’t checked) and they’re getting a top 7 protected pick this year from golden state. That’s a lot. The Knicks got Gallinari, Felton(not on the roster, Chandler(hasn’t been on the roster all year), Mozgov, and some mid round selections

Hes made bad and good trades like every other GM, thats how it goes. You gamble and sometimes you get the big payoff, Perkins wasn’t going to save the Celtics from their fate.They were towards the end of their prime when the team was assembled and now they are past their prime!

Rondo had his third triple-double of the season last night against the Bucks. If you think he can’t make a FT or jumpshot, you haven’t been watching C’s games. ACDC363 is right – a Rondo trade will be another colossal Ainge blunder in a string of them post 2008. (And for the record, Perk was not “leaving regardlless,” but was attempting to renegotiate his contract as players do in their last contract year). Ainge’s reputation in the media as some kind of GM genius is based solely on acquiring KG & Ray Allen in ’07. But most Boston fans see a very different GM, & fear what moves he will make before March 15th. The only thing true about Ainge’s rep is that he is ruthless – would trade his grandmother for an extra Garden parking attendant.

Puhleeze..Doc Rivers and his ONE bought title are sooooo overrated. Tom Thibodeau is the real reason why the Celtics coaching staff was worth anything when they won their one McHale-delivered title.

I don’t see how the Celtics get anything of value for Rando now. They’re best bet would be to trade him in the summer around the draft, while shipping out Allen and Garnett now for draft picks. Same goes for Pierce if you could get something meaningful back, but with his contract and age, the Celtics re in no mans land with that one. This will be a long rebuild for Bean town.

Perkins was going to leave regardless. Rondo is under contract. They would not trade him for nothing. There is absolutely no comparison to the Perkins situation.

Funny how you don’t say what the Lakers have to give up to trade for Rondo.. after trading away their two biggest assets in Gasol and Bynum in other deals.

Ainge has given Rondo every chance to show that he can be a well behaved leader and that the Celts should build around him.

Rondo’s thumbed his nose at that offer – so he’s very much on the trading block.

He’ll be a great contributor on a team with true veteran leadership – so there’s clear value to be had. But I’m zen with Ainge completely blowing up the team and parting ways with Rondo, making clear what type of player he wants to build the team around moving forward.
