Utah would benefit by:
Dumping Devin Harris' contract which is 9 million this year and 8.5 million next year. He hasn't worked out there.
Grant Hill has no contract for next year.
so they save money/free up money to spend elsewhere
Phoenix's first round pick will likely be a high lottery pick in a strong draft.
Jared Dudley is a pretty good young small forward with a very reasonable contract (4.25 million a year for the next 3 years).
Derrick is set to make 4.7 next year, 6 million in 2013, 7.8 million in 2014.

To sum up:
Utah would save about 9 million this year and next year by getting rid of Devin.
They get a good lottery pick from Phoenix.
They get a solid and affordable small forward.

Utah would still have solid front court with Al Jefferson, Paul Milsap, Enes Kanter...

I don't believe Knicks will trade Melo either...

but...
Nash lives in NYC for summers...
if he became Knicks back-up pg/finished games with Lin, we'd have 48 minutes of great offense every night...
Derrick Favors looks like a young Amare- maybe better because he also rebounds...

Carmelo is a great player- one of the best scorers in the league. But- my theory is that the great scorers in the league don't play with (real) pgs. They play with 3 point shooters that stretch floor/play off the elite scorer/maybe provide good defense. Kobe never played with pg. Jordan never played with pg. Nowitski didn'y have pg last year (Kidd really isn't pg anymore). Larry Bird didn't play with real pg (Dennis Johnson was starting sg on Seattle when they won championship).

I'd love to see Knicks get great pg for Melo (they should go all out for Steph Curry).
send:
Jermey Lin
Amare
for
Steph Curry
David Lee

for all the people that don't believe D'Antoni can win...Knicks spend money...not like the Suns...Suns never had a center like Tyson...and....other teams have won championships with an offense that starts outside in- Dallas last year (a bad example), both eras of Detroit champions (good example), even Miami this year plays a dribble penetration based half court offense...

I'm going to throw out an insane concept. See if the derelicts on these boards can keep up: a player AND management both honor a contact. He finishes it and goes elsewhere, they sell tickets for the rest of the season and move on with no hard feelings.

he has given you everything and you still want more? that is just plain wrong. without him your team would have been an afterthought for the last decade.

he has a contract that he will not break unlike plenty of selfish players, and your being disappointed in him is besides the point. if he was a mercenary he would have left you high and dry in the middle of this or any of the last couple of seasons for a chance at a ring.

he doesn't owe you anything, he plays hard and makes the team relevant as well as putting coin in sarvers pocket. he has fulfilled his end of his contract and more.

he is leaving this summer regardless of what sarver or the fans in phoenix want. your team won't get another player like him again and that is why you all want him to suffer in mediocrity for the rest of his career.

its not like he only played for your team, he was a maverick and chose to join you, so he has a right to choose to leave you.

After watching your owner/gm gut the team time and again he is supposed to stay and rebuild again with that terrible roster you have? He is the best player your franchise has ever had and your owner is only keeping him due to financial benefits he receives from having a single marquee player

Hmm. Personally, I might find abandoning his team to chase a ring more disappointing. Phoenix has been good to Nash, what's wrong with an athlete showing some loyalty back to the organization, fans and community rather than going mercenary?

This is a perverse example of loyalty. It really doesnt make sense for either side for Nash to stay. The Suns arent going anywhere with him. They should deal him to expedite their rebuilding process. One way or another Nash shouldnt be on the Suns roster next season. At least if they deal him they can get something for their trouble.
