allow me to break down each side:

Wolves: Beasley’s contract is up after this year and it would be silly of the Wolves to commit big money to him long term. So he’s gone after this year. If they can get a 1st rounder or high 2nd rounder, or even a young rotation player for him, I think they should do it. Hence this trade makes sense for them.

Lakers: The Lakers desperately need some perimeter athleticism, which Beasley provides. He probably doesn’t make the difference in the conference finals, but in the 1st or 2nd round he might. A 1st round pick isn’t that valuable for an aging contender. Also, they don’t commit long term money and only pay half his salary this year. So the trade makes sense for them too…. unless… they can get something better for the pick plus exception. They might be waiting to make sure the can’t get Howard (or someone else) first, but if this is their only offer to use the exception, they should do it.

….. Lakers needed to pull that trigger! I’m not a big Beasley fan, but he’s been really hot lately. A very young improving talent who could produce high quality #’s for the team for many long years….. they were offered a steal, and didn’t take it.

I am a Lakers fan. They wanted two picks for that cancerous black hole. I’m happy as hell they passed on him. Last time I checked Beasley doesn’t play much PG.

Beasley is not signed past this season. So, I don’t see the argument that this would have been bad for the Wolves.

The dude is talented. I know it seems like a risk for the Lakers but I don’t know what else they are trying to get with a few late 1st round draft picks and a bevy of garbage bench players. I guess they are content keeping the roster as is moreover. If they are adamant on keeping Gasol and Bynum what else do they have?

I completely agree. Giving Beasley to the Lakers for their 1st rounder would have been a horrible move for the Wolves. The pick would likely be at the end of the round, and there’s no chance of picking a guy with B-Easy’s ceiling that late.

Make the Lakers keep their useless pick, and end up cutting whoever it is.

On one hand, a #2 overall pick for what will be a mid-to-lower 1st rd. pick isn’t a bad move. On the other, LA might be too much a distraction. But at least he could get his weed need legalized there.
