Jeremy Lin, Tim Tebow are talking to one another

There are similarities between NFL crossover sensation Tim Tebow and NBA crossover sensation Jeremy Lin: Both had to overcome a number of detractors in the sport, both are devoutly and publicly Christian, both have had success on the field/court, both have had an explosion in popularity.

Friendships have been formed on less. The two are talking and their religion is the connection, Lin’s former chaplain at Harvard, Adrian Tam told People Magazine (via IamaGM.com).

“They’ve spoken over the telephone. Jeremy’s been a fan of Tebow’s for a while, but only recently were they able to connect,” says Tam of Lin, who’s followed Tebow since his quarterback days on the national champion University of Florida football team.

“His comment to me was that Tim is a really great guy and that he’s very inspired by him,” adds Tam.

There are a lot of differences between the Tebow story and the Lin story as well. Unlike Lin, Tebow did not come out of nowhere — he is arguably the greatest college quarterback ever, the questions around him were about his game translating to the NFL level. Lin has been overlooked since high school. Plus there is Lin’s standing among the Asian-American community that is different.

As many others have said, to me Kurt Warner — grocery store bagger to Super Bowl champion quarterback — is a more apt parallel for Lin. But if Lin and Tebow connect and hit it off, good for them. They can go out and grab a few drinks together and… yea, probably not.

Lin is showing Tim how to get the ball to teammates, and Tim is showing Lin how not to fumble.

      That’s awesome… hahaha

Why can’t they grab a few drinks together? It’s not like “grabbing a few drinks” = “getting wasted”…

Why is the media trying to equate the Tim Tebow story to Jeremy Lin’s once in a life time phenomenon? Tebow was a star in college & had a couple of good games in the NFL. His talent isn’t NFL quality. On the other hand Lin is definitely a quality point Guard. There’s no talk of “oh maybe he’s a 2 or a 3.”. Lin was virtually unknown to almost everyone and was on the verge of being cut yet again. He went from that to an international superstar in 1 week. Ask China or Russia who’s Tim Tebow.

Kurt Helin: I’ve read 3 of your columns today and there’s been at least one typo in each column. Please edit your columns before publishing. I’ve proofread this short post twice and I don’t even do this for a living.

^^^^^ dude really???? im not huge kurt fan, in my 6months on being on PBT i do know he really loves Lebron, and thats fine we all have that person we think is the greatest or great, but Kurt must be doing something right if you are reading all his articles, people make mistakes when writing esp when there writing more then 1 article a day

Kurt keep up to good work for the most part i enjoy reading your articles, even if some of things you say i dont agree but i do enjoy!

Spoken like the intelligent New Englander. Not easy being a Celtics fan nowadays. Good luck on the rebuilding. No sarcasm intended.

    • t16rich - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:10 PM

I wonder what is important in people like dougmanoh’s life sometimes. Only an idiot would proofread somthing twice than make a bitchy comment about not getting paid for it. Who even proofreads somthing once without getting paid for it or without attending school?

  5. mikeewright7 - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:24 PM

@jimeejohnson Its not easy at all being a Celtics fan this year lol but that comes with being a “LOYAL FAN” yea we do need to rebuild or get some better role players but in all due time, im sure the Celtics will win another championship one day,you dont win 17 titles on luck, however i gotta correct you on something, im from and currently raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin! not a new englander lol but i do love the Celtics, but thanks!

Kurt Heilen: I think you want to date Jeremy Lin. I can just you right now thinking of what your next Jeremy Lin post will be

Comparing lin to tebow is appropriate because they both suck at their positions….

    • franbotel - Feb 23, 2012 at 10:25 PM

Whatever Lin is no question a NBA point guard ; Not sure tebow is an NFL QB. Also Lin earned his spot unlike Tebow who had his fans bully the Broncos into starting him

      • losangelasbasketball - Feb 25, 2012 at 8:57 PM

“his spot” you mean “his opportunity” lin doesnt have a “spot” yet. Mello has a spot, so does amare… Lin has just an opportunity still.

Is it in a virgin chat room?

  9. nowillrepeat - Feb 24, 2012 at 12:06 AM

Lin looked like a chump tonight on the same court as wade and james. I could care less for either team

  10. kilo0986 - Feb 24, 2012 at 12:29 AM

Sorry but you canter compare the two, Lin is riding on the backs of amare and melo for a win like tim did with the defense

  11. dieseltrain - Feb 24, 2012 at 4:41 PM

Now this explains Lin bad game. Tebow scrubbyness jumped on Lin.
