LeBron has a new PR handler

Feb 19, 2012, 2:04 PM EDT

Sweat rolls down the face of Miami Heat's James during a break in play against Milwaukee Bucks in their NBA game in Milwaukee Reuters

LeBron James is loathed by many, still. His negative PR is lessening as people begin to move on with their lives, but after last year,it was clear that James had struggled with how to handle his public perception. He took a bad situation, lit it on fire, and then dropped it off a cliff into a pit of manure. And apparently, James realized this because he has reportedly gone out and gotten himself a new handler.

From the News Herald:

James had to know the questions were coming on Thursday when the Miami Heat were practicing at Quicken Loans Arena. He recently hired a new “strategist,” a man who worked on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s gubernatorial campaign, so for all we know, his answers could all have been planned.

via Bob Finnan’s NBA notes: If LeBron James wants to return in two years, the Cavs should find a way (with video) – news-herald.com.

Well, Schwarzenegger did get elected, so there’s that.

James’ comments this week about playing in Cleveland again were really the first things h’e said to cause issues for himself this year. He was quiet during the lockout, has played well, hasn’t made any overly confident statements and hasn’t come across as badly. It is interesting that he has his own marketing firm with his friends from high school in LRMR (who put together “the Decision” along with his agent), and now has looked outside. Getting away from that series of decisions is the best thing he can do.

James seems like a good guy and a terrific player, but nothing he says comes out right. He should just stop talking. Period.

If he did, then we’d all be complaining that he’s an idiot for not sharing his thoughts. He cannot win either way. I guess haters will hate.

  2. raidmagic - Feb 19, 2012 at 3:24 PM

Seems like the smartest thing he has done since that ill fated day of the decision

  3. farvefromover - Feb 19, 2012 at 4:53 PM

I would not object nor complain to Lebron keeping his yapper shut and his thoughts to himself.

not making excuses for him, but growing up without a father or father figure, and since a young age no real discipline or boundaries because he was a star almost from the day he was born…
imagine growing up in a world where you could do what you want when you want without any repercussions or consequences, then think of the kind of man a person would develop into growing up in that setting…

I am actually surprised with all these negatives that he is still a pretty decent guy overall, because honestly growing up in those circumstances you would expect someone more on a Floyd Mayweather d-bag level

Why not just hire Kurt to be his new PR guy?

    • berbes - Feb 19, 2012 at 6:48 PM

mr. kurt prefers his roll as poolboy.

  6. llfreedman - Feb 19, 2012 at 5:22 PM

I don’t agree. I think we would then judge him by his basketball instead of all the other noise. He can win with the public by shutting up and winning a championship.

    That simple.

LeBron needs to drop his high school friends. He needs to hired EDUCATED people to make decisions for him. It is funny how people say others are hating on LeBron when LeBron makes some stupid statement, when it is really just educated people calling it how it is. If I was LeBron, and just a 11th grade education, I would make a ton of mistakes like he has and continues to..

LeLoser creates his own problems. Can’t wait for playoffs, when LeLoser will choke again.

    • okcallday - Feb 19, 2012 at 7:58 PM

DOPE nickname for LeBron, brah! You showed him!

Jesus, when are people going to grow the **** up and move on…

      • henryd3rd - Feb 20, 2012 at 9:16 AM

Why bring Jesus into the equation? He had nothing to do with LeBron’s decision, He was playing baseball in the Yankees’ minor league system when that decision was made. Now he’s in Seattle.

I can just see James Lipton on “Inside the Actors Studio” asking “And what job would you least like to have?” and the answer would be “LeBron’s PR guy”.

My initial thought after reading the headline “LeBron has a new PR handler” was, “what, duct tape?”

  11. thetooloftools - Feb 19, 2012 at 9:26 PM

Hey LeBron… BANG BANG BANG Cleveland here. Unless you get down on your knees and beg for forgiveness, there is NO WAY you will ever come back here. You were not thinking of your family or your family in Cleveland when you made your “decision” to walk away from us and then crap all over us. You were only thnking of yourself. We don’t forget, but we can forgive if you are sincere. If you think we are just going to hail the return of the prodigal son without you showing contrition, then your nuts. Cleveland showed you a genuine Love that no other place will ever be able to show you. You were the fruit of our loins. We Loved You. And you slapped us like a whore on the way out the door.

    • mrsdestinydevine - Feb 20, 2012 at 9:08 AM

OMG, a cleveland fan. Okay here we go, somebody give mr. thetooloftools a hankie! Jeesh, let us all remember, CLEVELAND WASN’T CRAP UNTIL LEBRON CAME! Oh and by the way, YOU GUYS STILL SUCK! And I gurantee you Lebron decided that he wanted to come back, you guys would be all on his nuts! Get over it!

  12. canehouse - Feb 19, 2012 at 10:25 PM

i am absolutely amazed at the continued polishing of the telescope aimed at LBJ… even when he eventually (this season… sorry spike the bocks are a nice team… but not nice enough!) wins it all… they’re leaching from the spineless, dull and iron deficient media will be the most capital embarrassing act 3 (5 act play) of their careers.

  13. canehouse - Feb 19, 2012 at 10:34 PM

    @ tooloftools

aren’t you taking it a little toooo serious?? I mean you should be numb to migrations… your Brownies went exit stage right with fair warning… and the whining and desperate pleas to remain there were silenced as your post “decision” culture has evolved into. LET IT GO!

  14. detroitcityryda - Feb 19, 2012 at 11:40 PM

hope they have his speech planned after he chokes and the heat get killed again in the finals or Easter conf championship

    • redbullenergydrink - Feb 20, 2012 at 12:16 AM

Well at least he’ll be in the playoffs unlike your Pistons.

  15. diablito0402 - Feb 20, 2012 at 4:09 PM

Lebron is garbage, he went to vegas for a bachelor party along with wade and other players and he didnt tip, actually it was a story here, i also heard while in cleveland, he and his friends stayed late at a restaurant and kept the whole staff 2 hours after closing, the bill was huge, and only left about 50 dolls for the whole staff, that says a lot about the guy,,

    • southbeachtalent - Feb 21, 2012 at 1:05 PM

You forgot to add that he doesn’t recycle!!!!!

  16. max20characters - Feb 21, 2012 at 2:01 PM

If you jealous haters worked every single day for the rest of your life, you still wouldnt make even half of what LeBron has ALREADY made. Give credit when credit is due. He’s only the best (Active) basketball player on the planet.
