Linsanity has reached the White House — Obama “impressed”

Our national Baller-in-Chief has caught Linsanity just like everyone else.

Jeremy Lin added to his legend with a game-winning three Tuesday night over Toronto that had enough swagger for all of New York. Barack Obama is a hoops fan — remember, he had a court installed at the White House — and he has a case of Linsanity, reports Yahoo News.

Obama “is an avid sports fan, and a particularly avid basketball fan, and we were speaking about Jeremy Lin on Marine One as we flew to Andrews Air Force Base this morning,” Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, told reporters on Air Force One as the president headed to Wisconsin to talk about manufacturing (and then is scheduled to go to California to scoop up campaign cash). “He is very impressed.”

“If anybody caught the highlights from last night, they were pretty breathtaking. It’s just a great story and the president was saying as much this morning,” Carney said.

“It’s, obviously, terrific for the New York Knicks. But it’s the kind of sports story that transcends the sport itself,” Carney said.

I can totally picture Obama out on the White House court, trying to imitate Lin, waiving his teammates off so he can go for the iso jumper over Joe Biden. And frankly, you should nail every jumper over Biden, he’s older and slower than Derek Fisher.

I fear the moment — and it’s coming — when some politician tries to attach himself to Lin during a campaign. Don’t. (And that’s not what Obama did here, he’s just talking about what we’re all talking about.) This is pure. Let it be just about hoops and not about politics. I beg you.

How can you post a story involving a sitting President and NOT expect the comments to have some political overtones to them? If Obama wasn’t in the White House, nobody would give a sh-t what he thinks about North Carolina, the Chicago Bears, his NCAA bracket picks, or anything else sports related.

But I’ll refrain from making any political comments out of respect for Kurt and the PBT gang :)

Keep up the great work, Kurt. I look forward to your articles every day.

Lin needs to become a Doctor to live up to Asian father expectations

    • b7p19 - Feb 15, 2012 at 3:12 PM

I think you got your stereotypes mixed up bud. Indians are the Doctors, and Asians are good at Math. At least watch Harold and Kumar before you start in on this stuff.

      • dirtydavis - Feb 15, 2012 at 4:26 PM

No dude… Aisan are good orthopedic(s) doctors and the Indian are good psyche & Internal Doctors. C’mon I practice Workers Comp.

Asians are dentists, bro. C’mon now

Its a good thing Lin already plays in New York and not a small market team so Stern doesn’t have to figure out away to get him to a Big Market team.

I know he’s not a citizen and he’s a Muslim, but what will it take for the writer to print “President Obama…”?

President Obama is a scrub with the basketball jones like the rest of us. In my mind, he can have an opinion on this that’s not necessarily political. Homey took a bow too the chops in a pickup game a few weeks ago.

I’ve never seen anybody compliment Kurt before. It must be a very special day for him.

Who cares what the president thinks about basketball?????????

We didnt care what Bush or Clinton (besides the razorbacks) or Reagan thought about basketball so why do we care with Obama?? Is it bc he’s black? Im not saying that to be negative, i am seriously asking is that why we are supposed to care?

    • 00maltliquor - Feb 16, 2012 at 1:34 AM

Uhhh, because he’s a hooper. And he’s as big a figure as it gets in being our president. I mean, c’mon, how many freaking presidents do we have with pictures of them shooting the rock like the one above!? Ey, no matter what you feel about him politically, if your a bball fanatic like myself that’s just f’n awesome!!

While President Obama may be impressed with Jeremy Lin, I’m not. Typical a guy has a few games and the dimwitted sports pundits make too big a deal of it, as always. Lin stunk with the Warriors and a few good games is far too little to proclaim Lin some superstar. The Knicks stink so winning a few games in a row is nice but I’ll only be impressed when they have a win streak that compares to the best win streaks in the history of the league.
