Lakers send Devin Ebanks down to D-League

Feb 15, 2012, 6:09 PM EDT

From the Lakers’ official Twitter feed:

BREAKING: The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned forward Devin Ebanks to their @nbadleagueaffiliate, the Los Angeles @DFenders.

This could mean nothing, but it could mean something significant for the Lakers as well: Gilbert Arenas-to-LA rumors have been swirling for about a week now, although the team has said it doesn’t have “serious interest” in the former Wizards standout. More recently, and perhaps more realistically, the Lakers have been in talks with J.R. Smith, who has been in China all season after spending last season with the Denver Nuggets.

The 22-year old Ebanks has appeared in 12 games for the Lakers this season, and has averaged 2.7 points in 12.6 minutes per game.

I think it’s to get him more playing time. He hasn’t played in the last seven games, and the move doesn’t open a roster spot. He just isn’t getting used with a healthy Barnes and MWP.

I agree with you in the minutes part but sending a player to the D-League does open a roster spot. I don’t know maybe this means J.R. Smith or maybe it’s all speculation.

sending someone to the D-League does not open a roster spot. He is being sent purely to gain playing time

??? What would be the value in sending Luke?

Can’t anyway. Only players in their first two years or on injury rehab (with the player’s consent).

I wish! You can only send players down to the D-league who are in their 1st and 2nd years. I’m not sure but I think maybe even their 3rd year but definatly the 1st two years. And if there was such thing as an F-league they need to send Steve Flake down there too!
