AP Earlier on Wednesday, Kevin Garnett went through shootaround and was upgraded to “probable” to play that night against the Pistons. He sounded like a go.
But when push came to shove, the Celtics decided to give him the night off. He is out for a game, a decision made less than an hour before tip-off (after Doc Rivers had his pregame meeting with the media).
This is the first game KG has missed this season. Rivers had said previously this was not a serious injury. However in this condensed season, giving the not-exactly-young Garnett a night off here and there to rest injuries. Especially against a team the Celtics should beat like the Pistons.
The Celtics play again Thursday night at Chicago, the first of a five-game road trip. Expect KG to play in most if not all of those games.

KG needs to shut it down for good after this season. I hope he doesn’t pull a Shaq, and embarrass himself by sticking around when he’s clearly a shell of his former self. He’s had a brilliant career, but there’s something to be said about being able to walk past 45 years of age, and being able to bend over and pickup your grandkids.

“But when push came to shove, the Celtics decided to give him the night off”
Whenever push comes to shove KG always takes off.

That 14-time All star, NBA MVP, and NBA champion — KG, the guy you want to shut it down — just had still another double-double tonight. Unwise to use embarrassing and KG in the same sentence.
