The fact is, if Utah is so awful vs the pick and roll, how come every point guard that faces them doesn’t drop 20+ points and 8 or so assists?

The Jazz are 21st in the league in defensive rating and 29th in stopping the pick and roll ball handler, so they were not well suited to stop him.

I think Kurt is a big boy and can take it. If not, DON’T WRITE. I actually like a lot of what Kurt does since I started looking at the site, but in this case, I think he was wrong in his overall assessment of Lin.

As of tonight, Lin had his first bad shooting night but did enough (including game winning FT) to win on the road. That’s a good sign. Don’t have the A game but hang in there and win at the end.

I like how Kurt Helin puts all his effort into mildly praising Jeremy Lin but really not giving him his due for what he has done and then puts all his effort into cutting and pasting an NBA.com YouTube link to say, “Good game, Jeremy.”

The next test for Lin is how much better he will make the Knicks with Melo and Stoudamire on the floor. Melo is going to have to play without holding on the ball and slowing down the D’Antoni rhythm offense. Lin doesn’t have to be a stat monster to be effective. His numbers are going to go down for sure. But can Anthony handle scoring 18 or 20 a game instead of his customary 25 or 30?

I am very interested in seeing how Lin plays versus Westbrook/Rondo/Rose. But then again, basketball is not a 1-on-1 game, it’s 5-on-5.

I look forward to Helin’s next story on Lin and at least giving him some unconditional praise.

Agreed. Lin has shown what he CAN do…now the next step is to do it consistently for the rest of the season. Not necessarily going off for 38, but solid, consistent PG play, leading the team to Ws.. Often that means not just scoring your own buckets, but doing what it takes to make everyone else on the team better (think: Steve Nash). I think Lin has the skillset necessary to do that, and it’s going to be fun watching him try to prove it. ShaoLIN!

nobody is saying he is elite but he has played well enough not to be deemed a one hit wonder. he has now played 5 great games in a row which means he has proven he can play in the nba at least for the rest of this season anyway. now if people like kurt will just let him play without writing he can’t after every game then we can all get on without the rest of the news in the league. but no when anthony and amore come back and he doesn’t score big kurt will be first in line with the I told you so headlines. again just let the guy play out the season before making a final judgment on him he has that much by now.

Kurt, how about some commentary on that bizarre decision to take 2 points off the board several plays after the erroneous defensive foul call? At a minimum, it seems to me, the ball should have been awarded to the Knicks, which would have been the result if the correct call had been made. Instead, the Lakers benefitted by 2 points AND they got the ball. Fortunately, it didn’t affect the outcome.

well, still, it takes a lot more than a week of good basketball to declare the guy elite. And no, the Lakers defense was actually not a good test- they just sat there in the paint looking at him half the game, which is how they lose a lot of games to a lot of teams. Lin isn’t earning any universal props until he stays consistent the whole year into the playoffs. Even then he won’t be cemented until the end of next year. Not saying all of this will never happen, just saying ‘time will tell’.

I honestly don’t think Kobe meant any disrespect when he said he didn’t know what Lin had done. These guys are playing a compact schedule with a game almost every night. He only had 3 games before they played. NBA teams have to take games one at a time, maybe Kobe just dose not watch sportscenter the rest of the time when he’s not playing basketball.

I dont know why people continue to say The Lakers were Lin’s first real test. He did play the Jazz as well. Are we supposed to just poo-poo Russell Westbrook’s 28 and 6 Reb and 3 asst performance vs Utah last night as well? Bottom line, Jeremy Lin speaks to an ignorance, and just how awful NBA reporting and NBA front offices are.

The fact that the Knicks had this man behind Toney Douglas for so long is astonishing, and this is coming from a man who has seen every Knick play this year. But whats worse, someone who has played this well was in the D-League a few weeks ago, and cut from two different teams! It doesnt matter how you view his competition, bottom line, if Brandon Knight had 4 consecutive games like this, would we view it as a fluke? Same goes for Jimmer, Kemba, or any young point guard making his 3rd start. And this piece of writing is the icing on the cake. The last two days was filled of, “Enjoy the Lin ride, its about to get bumpy…” or “The Wizards, Nets and Jazz are awful defenses…” Lin outplays Kobe, on national TV with all of the attention he’s been getting and all this site cares to write is 30 word entry??? Again, Im not saying he’s the next Nash, or Paul, but its obvious he’s not the next Dan Dickau or another flash in the pan guy either.
