It’s a stupid rule in baseball and I’d beyond pissed if something like this infected basketball too.

The entire concept of an exhibition game having “stakes” is ridiculous. If the game is for something as serious as home court or home field advantage in a championship series, the manager / coach should only play his top line ups. We’re talking 8 or 9 man rotation the way any team plays when they are really trying to win.

But obviously that is never going to happen because it’s still an exhibition game. The 13th, 14th, and 15th men on those teams are all going to get to play. And if you play those guys, you’re obviously not trying as hard as you possibly can to win, rendering the entire game a farce.

Not to mention that it completely screws over the team that works hardest to actually get the best record if they happen to be on the losing end of that all star game

Just an absurd idea all around.

I actually agree with Love so I guess I’m dead wrong but…

The NBA is a non contact sport so unlike NFL and NHL, the players aren’t at much risk.

It would be an absolute dream to see the all star teams go at each other more intensely, I’m saying give 75% instead of 20.

Jordan vs magic in the all star game was classic. Gimmie lebron vs Kobe.

I say give the winning team’s players huge bonus’s and make it count for home court. Booya, that’s video game level entertainment.

its a great idea. I like watching the MLB all-star game because those guys actually try. The pro-bowl sucks because it might as well be two hand touch between QBs and WRs. The NBA is a joke when people don’t play their hardest. I want to see motivation for home-field advantage not just a slightly bigger paycheck like the pro-bowl.

His heart is in the right place, but it’s just a terrible idea. MLB does it, and it’s a joke. They put home field advantage on the line, but let the FANS decide who plays, making it the most POPULAR players in baseball playing for home field in the World Series instead of the BEST players. Every year, the MLB All Star game is dominated by players from New York, Boston and Los Angeles, because there are just more fans out there. You either remove the fan vote, or make it a meaningless exhibition.

Also, the NBA should never put anything of meaning on the line, because you’d be putting guys with little or no experience playing together with a coach few of them have experience with and a system few of them have played in, with a chance that zero players who will be actually PLAYING in the finals getting a say in who has home court. MLB can get away with the concept, because the game basically boils down to a series of one-on-one battles between the pitcher and hitter. In basketball, the entire team has to play together on both ends of the court, or everything’s a mess.

I love my guy Kevin Love but it is not the greatest idea. It is pretty obvious why he is suggesting it though. The All-Star game plays directly into Kevin Love’s negatives and won’t highlight any of his positives. He doesn’t have extreme athleticism like all the other players. This is all this game is about. It is a highlight reel of no defense and insane slams.

He does know how to battle down low take hits and give them back. Fight for lose balls and rebounds. This won’t happen in the All-Star game so that is why I am glad he is gonna do the 3 point shootout. He does do that well.

I agree that it’s a terrible idea, but it really is a damn shame how completely unentertaining the All-Star Game has become.

Can you imagine how amazing it would be to watch both these assemblages of superlative talent actually trying to win? It really seems like today’s game is in short supply of true competitors.
