Derrick Rose to sit against Bobcats Friday

Feb 10, 2012, 7:32 PM EDT

Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose celebrates after teammate Luol Deng was fouled while shooting by Los Angeles Lakers' Pau Gasol during the second half of an NBA basketball game in Los Angeles Reuters

This is the smart thing to do.

The Chicago Bulls need Derrick Rose — but they need him more Sunday against Boston and going forward as we crawl toward the playoffs the playoffs than they do Friday against the lowly Charlotte Bobcats.

Rose is out Friday night, reports C.J. Watson gets the start in his place.

This is exactly what the Bulls should do — Charlotte is a team they can beat without Rose. But regardless, as you have seen veteran coaches like Gregg Popovich do in the past, resting players now to keep them fresh as we get deeper into the season and start thinking playoffs matters more than a regular season win.

You can bet Rose will be back Sunday for Boston.

Bulls are destroying these guys as o halftime. They could sit all starters & win easily. I hope Thibs rests the starters in the 2nd half. He’s getting carried away with the minutes for starters.

They should’ve just sat all their starters, they’d risk actually breaking a sweat against Charlotte.

Actually, that’s a pretty small risk to take.

Noticed Rip Hamilton is out yet again. He’s missed 24 of the Bulls 29 games so far this season. What a waste.

First, he was sitting from injury indefinitely, now he’s away from the team indefinitely for “personal reasons”. He’s not traveling with them, not attending games or practice. Somethings very wrong with this picture. The newest key piece to a title contender needs to at least be with the team.
