I don’t think King James is scared. Some people just aren’t into that competition. He’s still one of the best if not the best in the NBA right now

The Dunk Contest is the “Dancing with the Stars” of the NBA. It’s for the up and coming, or the down and going. There’s a reason you won’t see Christian Bale on DWTS, and it’s not because he’s afraid to lose. It’s because it’s beneath him.

If LeBron’s scurred to lose, put Kenneth Faried in there. Not saying he could beat Blake, but he wouldn’t be afraid to compete against anyone. Kid’s got insane elevation.

King James still has the hops. I honestly think him and Blake would make what Jordan and Wilkins did before. But I think King James would take it. Blake is a monster but his dunks are overrated and the KIA was a setup!

MJ won his Dunk Titles, got sick of that crap, and then focused on winning titles (and obviously did).

LeBron is 27 and surprisingly still without his first ring…..a ton of pressure to get it…..and he’s still flirting with this crap. This is child’s play for LeBron’s situation to the level that it is insulting to anyone who respects the game that he is even considering it.

I think the biggest reasons he won’t enter are 1) it’s a kids contest more than anything else and 2) why give turds like those commenting on this post or on TV a reason to rip him apart over nothing, or to use it as a forum to spew crticisms on other things. Example:

I guess the playoffs don’t start until the Finals, which Detroit hasn’t and won’t sniff for God knows how long. All those 4th quarter dagger threes and suffocating defense performances against BOS and CHI were in my imagination I guess- or were those exhibition series against the Celtics and Bulls? Dwight Howard has only been to one Finals and his team got swept convincingly- I guess he is a pathetic choker and who has never played well under pressure, and will obviously never win a title, right?

they need to start makingthese guys…I’m 41 years old and miss the All Star games of the 80′s and early 90′s….

I can’t believe LeBron and maybe Blake wouldn’t want to match with Jordan and Dominique did.
Dr. J and Jordan have to be thoroughly disappointed in today’s players.

it’s too late LeBron, if he did it one of the first few seasons when his legs were fresh and he was consistently getting his head at least rim level on almost all his dunks then it would have been nice to see him….

But now that he’s older I really don’t wanna see half the dunker that he used to be go in the competition… he’s strictly a game dunker now and that’s it…
he flirted with the fans last time too when he PROMISED he’s gonna enter and he ended up wussying out, ticked quite a few people off too

I don’t think I can watch the dunk contest after last years was clearly a joke. I have a hard time believing that they didn’t force Griffin into the finals so he could dunk to make a commercial of it for a product sponsored by the NBA.

I am a LBJ fan, (cant get behind Miami though) but can’t understand why after so many years in he league he hasn’t entered. Typically, guys enter when they are young they still have hops. In a year or 2, sure he’ll still be able to dunk pretty well, but he won’t be able to compete with the 22 year old guys. So, what I’m hearing him say is, he will likely never compete in the dunk contest. That’s a little disappointing. Would e nice if he decided to jut o out there and have some fun with it.

You’re absolutely right. He has very little competitive drive and a lot of fear and anxiety.

I think this is the most important reason why he should’ve just stayed in Cleveland. If he would’ve managed to win just 1 title he would’ve been a God there. Now he is expected to win multiple titles during his time with Miami and the expectations crushed him in the playoffs last year.

I think the whole “not 4, not 5, not 6″ statement was ridiculous and unrealistic, but imo if Bron/Wade/Bosh bring Miami 3 titles they were a success. 2 titles would be acceptable, 1 would be a pretty big disappointment, and 0 titles would be a historic failure.

so perfectly put. This is why All-Star weekend SUCKS!!! none of the big name guys want to go against each other in anything. So afraid of losing to Blake Griffin. If LeBron lost in a tight dunk contest to let’s say Blake Griffin..it would only show his human side and it might win him back some fans.
Blake Griffin ,Iguodala (hes’ pissed cuz they robbed him in the dunk contest..and rightfully so), Kobe (too old), Vince Carter (why not) and Javale Mcgee….that would be nice. But every year we have to watch guys who shouldn’t be there trying to dunk….LeBron you SUCK and so does the rest of the NBA for allowing this sham of an All-Star continue year after year….
