If the Maloofs are seriously looking to replace Petrie, he is just an escape goat for owners who no longer have the funds to support a competitive team. The team already has the lowest payroll in the league, has not been the least bit interested paying for an established head coach. The Kings are one the last assets the Maloofs hold, and cant afford to maintain it any longer.
It is about time to David Stern to step in. Sacramento is about to lose the Kings to Los Angles because to some broke owners who will probably be forced to sell the team soon anyways.

Yes, Petrie does have some measure of responsibility for the team's trajectory, but there is a HUGE caveat. You point to Petrie hiring Musselman, Theus and Westphal. True in a sense, but the Maloofs have this quaint (some would say bizarre) practice of hiring coaches through a family interview. While it's less clear in the case of Westphal, the Musselman and Theus hires were all Maloof, The brothers seem to have trouble letting the basketball guys be the basketball guys.

As for the mismatched roster, it is less mismatched than it was, but again, you need to look at the Maloofs and their penny pinching ways which have made it difficult for Petrie to bring in the talent.

Too many short first ball hog guards on that team right now in Evans, Jimmer, and Thorton. I wouldn't be shocked if one is dealt by trade deadline.
