Dirk Nowitzki’s mid-season break — call it to rest his knee, or get in better condition, or practice his color commentary skills — is about to come to an end.

He is looking at a Sunday return in a nationally televised game against the Spurs, he told reporters Thursday, as reported by the Associated Press. That is the schedule the team announced prior to him sitting out starting last weekend.

Dirk Nowitzki says he’s had a good week of work and is shooting to return to the Dallas Mavericks’ lineup Sunday…

(Mavs coach Rick Carlisle) says Nowitzki has made progress, though Carlisle isn’t guaranteeing Nowitzki will play Sunday against San Antonio, the last of four consecutive home games.

Dallas has gone 2-1 without Nowitzki, with wins over New Orleans and Phoenix.
