I know it’s a lot of money, but these guy’s pay taxes in every city they play in. I would take the max. Plus how the owner treated the players during the CBA, please pay me!

It’s strange that the “negotiations” keep going here. He’s either going to get a 4-year-max or a 5-year-max, what is there to negotiate? Surely the Wolves have already decided whether or not to offer the 5 years. And surely Love and his agent have an idea in mind of what the will accept. Is this just a game of chicken? Or is there something more to it?

I wonder if the early termination clause (like in LeBron’s and Bosh’s contracts) is the sticking point. I wonder if Love wants an early termination clause and the Wolves are refusing to give him the 5 year max unless he doesn’t put it in.

Just a thought.

He deserves a max contract more than a few currently signed to max contracts. And since it’s MINN we’re talking about, leaving himself an out clause wouldn’t be a bad idea.

If you were Love, would you want them to be thinking about giving you less than a max deal so that they can save their max deal for a rookie with 15 games experience? We say what we want, but imagine it from Love’s perspective…. Do they have to make it a max deal if they go to 5 years, or can they go a hair under it? 5yr, $75mil is still pretty good…..

They seem to be doing themselves a disservice by not using the one thing that gives them an advantage. If he’s going to get less, why not take less and head to a more desirable city? The man along with Rubio puts butts in seats and makes people with league pass like me not want to miss a Wolves game. What more can you ask for?

The Timberwolves are not “lowballing” Love to save money. I don’t know why so many members of the media have this take, as if Kahn and the Wolves organization don’t know Love’s value. Everyone knows how good Love is. They’re not offering him the fifth year because of the new designated player rule that only allows a team to offer the five year max deal on one player at a time. Whose contract’s end within the five years? Hmm, what about that Rubio guy, and to a lesser extent, Derrick Williams? The Wolves want to keep that in their back pocket for the negotiations that will take place once their rookie deals are up. More attention should be given to the designated player rule and how stupid it is. It’s going to force teams to guess how good players will be years down the line. Think of the mess the Thunder would’ve been in if Durant didn’t his extension already. They would’ve had to choose between Durant and Westbrook, giving one the max five year deal and the other the four year deal.

Thanks NBA for only allowing a team to offer one player a max deal. What do we do in 3 years when Rubio is up for a contract? David Stern probably had the Wolves in mind when the new rules were put into place. Ever since the Joe Smith “under the table” deal the league has had it out for the Wolves. Damn you NBA.
