you're partially correct. I love MJ, but he wouldn't have a 6 pack of rings if not for #33 Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson. I think guys get caught up in nostalgia and forget about reality. MJ didn't win jack without Scotie and Phil, so yeah he's the greatest player on the planet but he didn't do it alone. I agree Dwight should stay put and ballout. But he knows whats really going on with that team moreso than any of us. Obviously they're not doing something right and dude wants out. Think of all those years KG wasted in Minnesota, how many rings could he have by now had he forced a trade to LA or Chicago? They need to go get Phil Jackson, I bet Dwight would unpack immediately. They need to do something like that if they intend on keeping him. But it looks like its pretty much a wrap...

what are you puffing over there? Kobe could have played in any one of those eras and still dominated. Think about it like this, the level of competition in Kobes era is far superior to the days of Wilt & Kareem. Guys are faster, bigger, stronger now than back then, so yes a top 3 ranking overall is not that far fetched. Imagine Lebron hooping in 1966, son would be league MVP 10 years str8, same thing for Kobe..stop hating it's not becoming..

Just would like to point out that Gasol has averaged 20 points twice in the regular season, and twice in the playoffs, and neither time was with LA. He was close, but when you say 20+ you make it sound like 20-25, when it was really 19.

Also would like to point out that Jerry West was not the GM of the Grizzlies when they traded Pau Gasol to the Lakers.

Of course if you list the weakest position on the Bulls championship teams against the 2nd strongest on the Lakers that definitely proves something! Especially when you throw in the 2nd and 3rd stringers! You want to play with forwards? How about Scottie Pippen (best perimeter defender ever, no question they don't win the first title without his D on Magic), Dennis Rodman (oh wow, another hall of famer! weird) Toni Kukoc (who averaged 19 points per game one year, so I get to call him a dominant 20+ ppg scorer, right?), Horace Grant in his prime (15/10 out of your third best player? not too bad), and we match them up against Rick Fox, Robert Horry, and the over the hill versions of Glen Rice, Ho Grant, and AC Green. Don't forget about Slava Medvedenko and Mark Madsen, since we're listing the scrubs. Oh, and here's another scrub you may not remember, Samaki Walker? He STARTED 63 GAMES for the 01-02 championship team.

Want to do point guards? Old Ron Harper vs Young Ron Harper - not too tough to decide there. BJ Armstrong and Steve Kerr or Derek Fisher?

Kobe isn't as great as Michael, but MJ won with MORE talent; not less.

At this point in his career, with the length of time that he has played at All Star level including what he's already done this season with the 4 straight 40 point games in this his 15th season is a feat that few have ever and few ever will accomplish in their career, and by the way he's done it before. He is without a doubt the best player in his era. And the one that everyone refers to as the GREATEST has himself even said that Kobe is the only player that should be compared to him. If Kobe wins another one or two championships theirs no way he's not considered the best player ever. Guys like Shaq, Wilt, Kareem have a different way of domination, they were blessed with being athletic in a freakishly big body. Guys without the height such as Kobe and Jordan have to be a whole lot more crafty with how they create opportunities for themselves.

Magic has been and will always be my favorite player of all time, but to compare him, Kareem, Bird to the likes of Jordan or Kobe is crazy. They were all great players in their time, but there is no argument that Jordan and Kobe are better. And just for clarification I am and always will be a Jordan hater, but the guy and crazy skills.

The other people talking smack on Kobe because he wants to make his team better are idiots. There are very, very few teams that won championships that didn't have multiple stars on them. Magic, Kareem, Worthy---Bird, McHale, Johnson----Jordan, Pippen, Rodman---Duncan, Robinson----Isiah Thomas, Dumars--- etc etc It's been proven one superstar can only get you so far ie Lebron and Allen Iverson...

So after all that when my superstarless 76ers win it this year I can come back on here and tell ya all about the team with no superstar that won....lol

Doesn't hurt to dream...

Again, like I told the last guy, don't go crazy. Wade was a good player his rookie (title) year, not a dominant player. He certainly was not the main guy on that team, it was 100% about shaq.

Besides, with the way defenses collapsed on shaq back then, if you were a guard and didn't have ridiculous number from all the open shots you were getting, you were terrible.

ChargerDillon: Of ALL TEAMS, the bulls were not a 1 vs 5 team! I miss 90s ball, because the NBA has become lazy. I remember times guys got knocked the F*** out if they tried to drive from the 3-line down the lane for a dunk. Now, 4 guys stare at the player. However, back to the Bulls.

The bulls were built around Jordan, but he didnt hog. Steve Kerr was there for the open three. He always stayed behind Jordan. Jordan would drive, Kerr would be as his 6 o clock for his dish. Pippen/ Kukoc was his secondary scorer. Always cut at the elbow of the key for the turn around. Longley big presence for passes down low for resets, rarely took it.

I have a question for all you Kobe haters? What team do you like that has actually won a championship? The Heat? Lebron hasn't won a championship, he couldn't "by himself" in Cleveland and he couldn't last year with All-Stars Bosh and Wade. The truth is, no one can win a championship by themselves. MJ had Scottie and then Scottie and Rodman. Tim Duncan had David Robinson and then Parker and Ginobilli. Mavs had Dirk, Chandler, Kidd, and Terry. Shaq had Kobe and then Wade. You can't tell me that anyone of those stars on those teams could have done it without the others.
@Chargerdillon don't forget to give Jordan's centers some love along with his Space Jam buddies. I believe that list includes but is not limited to Bill Cartwright, Bill Winnington, Luc Longley, and Will Perdue. Who did Kobe have? Some guy named Shaq, Bynum, and a crafty, skilled 7 ft Spaniard that could slide over to the middle if need be. Oh yeah, he was traded to the Lakers from Memphis by one of the top Lakers of all time: Jerry West! (What a joke) I still argue Kobe wouldn't have won numbers four or five without Gasol averaging that 20+/10+. He was dominant, go back and look at the games. The caliber of players to play with these two are not even close and Shaq and Kobe should have won every year they played together. I still can't believe they didn't. Kobe is very good, just not nearly as great as MJ.

Who referred to Shaq as a" complementary” player? My dude please stop. You're not making any sense. EVERY TEAM Shaq played on he had a great cast. Sure he may have been the best player on two of the teams that he took to the finals (Dwyane Wade was better on the Heat roster) but none of those teams were bad teams. On the Magic team he had Penny, Nick Andersen who at the time was the Magic's all time point leader, D3 plus Horace Grant who was a GREAT rebounder, and the list goes on and on! And let's not mention the Lakers coached by a very unique Phil Jackson. Shaq had help, Kobe had/has help MICHAEL JORDAN had HELP!! Shaq eventually turned into a "complementary" player as most stars past their prime do. If you're gonna talk sports talk sports, but make sense man.

MJ is the greatest of all time making it impossible for Kobe to get out of his shadow.. Before MJ had Phil and Scottie he was a scorer 37 points a game in the mid 80s. At the time people thought he would never win a title because he was a volume scorer like Kobe. Championships were won by teams with a dominant center (Russell, Kareem, Chamberlain, Mikan). Obviously not every title. MJ changed that with the help of Phil Jackson, the triangle, Scottie, and shooters like Kerr. If MJ didn't have those pieces his legacy may be similar to Kobe's.

The magic are really in a tough position...besides Bynum, who on the lakers has promise to them? They are also going to want to unload hedo and his ridiculous contract. But what can they get back, in players, that matches up to Howard and hedo? I think the only team that really has any assets that are worth it would be the clippers, but magic will ask for griffin. Am I the only one that gets frustrated with these "superstars" that are holding their teams at gunpoint because they want to "win" but won't suck it up, be a man and work hard for the franchise that invested in them?

Be careful dude....everybody knows Michael Jordan did it all on his own. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT.

Jordan won 6 rings playing 1 vs 5 basketball EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT!

You can look at all those horrible players on the Bulls and especially that horrible coach they had. Everybody knows that's why Jordan is so great, because Kobe and every other champion had help, but not Jordan, nope just him and all his Space Jam cartoon friends on the court winning with him.

This is why I hate the bulls and I will always hate Jordan. They had one of the greatest dynasty teams IN ANY SPORT.....but 1 guy gets the recognition.

@ albie23 thanks for clearing that up for those who claim to be fans! Get your facts straight before commenting.......as for Kobe, I've always felt that he only excelled when he had superior talent around him! I too felt it was odd how everyone around the league and the media assumes Kobe should be untitled to having great talent around him, isn't it the "greats" who are supposed to make their teammates better?? I'll always remember Kobe for what he showed himself to be without Shaq prior to the Gasol (robbery) trade! He had a decent team with Caron Butler and Odom but couldn't uplift his team........and now that Gasol and Bynum dont look to be good enough, the Lakers are right back at it and are trying to set Kobe up with another teammate with supreme talent

I have my facts straight. What they're saying about Kobe, they said the same thing about Penny - "he's the straw that stirs the Magic." Whereever Shaq went he made others (Penny, Kobe, Dwyane Wade) better.

Three moments sum up Kobe's entire career:

(i) His rookie year when they were bounced by the Utah Jazz, in that final play-off game instead of passing the ball into Shaq like he was supposed to, he tried to take the last shot and put up an airball. The play was designed to get the ball to Shaq, the established All-star and best player on the team. However, the 18 yr old HS ball player who did not know his place and tried to be "the man."

(ii) When Shaq left and Kobe was finally "the man," he cried about leaving L.A. for a better situation when he realized he could not carry the team.

(iii) The 2012 L.A. Lakers are the most talented team in the league. They have two 7-footers who can play. The rest of the teams are lucky if they have one. Yet Kobe is calling Dwight Howard for help! Are you kidding me? Who on the list of all-time greats were calling other All-Stars for help like they were playing AAU? Again Kobe shows his selfishness! If he really wanted to "upgrade" the Lakers he would ask Mitch Kupchak to trade him for Lebron.
