Shaq attack! The big shamrock. Superman. “Shaq” itself is a nickname! O’Neil has many nicknames due to his legacy. Howard has no legacy, but surround him with guys like Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, or LeBron and DWade and he’ll create a legacy. I don’t see Howard becoming overweight, often injured, and egotistical like Shaq did. Yet Shaq earned his legacy the hard way, and I agree that he was by far better than Howard is, so far,

I’m not an Orlando fan or a Shaq stan, just a lowly T-Wolves fan (Who by the way would gladly take Howard or Shaq in his prime). However, those of you comparing Shaq and Dwight should stop now. Shaq is a first ballot HOF and is arguably one of the top five big men of all time. Howard is an amazing player but he still has a TON to prove, not to mention his offensive game is nowhere near that of Shaq’s in his prime. No it’s not just about rings (Lame response Kurt Helin), but the fact that Shaq has four titles and Howard is yet to even sniff his first makes this a silly argument at this point. Let’s go back to this in 10 years when Howard is done and see what he actually accomplishes. As for Bynum versus Howard, Bynum needs to prove he is a man night in and night out before I’ll even entertain that argument.

Dwight Howard is a physically gifted athlete. He can call himself Aqua Man and still be one of the most popular athletes in the world. Although trivial, Shaq did the superman thing and Dwight Howard should’ve left it alone. Dwight Howard even going there shows his lack of respect and maturity. His selfish attitude is indicative to the modern-day NBA player. This is what happens when you draft chaps out of high school. You get moody, immature players. Guys that play hard only when they want to. You get guys that broker their own deals and will only play for readymade teams. This is why the average game in the NBA is unwatchable. Try the Milwaukee Bucks versus the Indiana Pacers on a Tuesday night.

You don’t get this type of crap in the NFL. In the NFL guys are blessed to be on the team and lay it on the line every week.

So because Shaq won some rings you’re going to shut your brain off and take everything he says seriously? Since when does being a hall of fame player mean you have any ability to judge how good current players are? The Isiah Thomas / Kevin McHale GM experiences should have taught you how silly that was.

The fact is that there is not a single piece of objective data you can look at that would support the claim that Bynum is better than Howard. It’s really not close, either. Honestly this is a ridiculous debate.

Also – Dwade carried Shaq to that fourth ring. Shaq barely did anything in the 2006 series against Dallas.

Oh sure, because being a hall of fame player obviously means you are great at evaluating talent. That’s why Isiah Thomas was such a great GM!

That isn’t true at all.

Hakeem Olajuwon and Alonzo Mourning played center at an elite level 15 years ago and Dwight Howard is bigger than both of them.

Just because Dwight isn’t as big as someone like Shaq or even Ewing doesn’t mean he isn’t a legit center for any era.

I would say that basing your argument on things that have not happened is stupidity and tunnel vision. I’ll go with the hall of fame guy with the rings and the awards and accolades in the bank. I know you might have to look up to word accolade so I thought about not using it, but it fits well. Fact, Kobe didn’t win a ring until he had Shaq, fact, D Wade didn’t win a ring until he had Shaq, hasn’t won one since either……even with Lebron. Dwight Howard has accomplished nothing other than a dunk contest win……….wow. It’s all about having respect for one of the best players ever, something you wouldn’t understand because your ignorance and stupidity get in the way. Now get back to work and later you can tell us how Dwight’s a$$ tastes.

Everyone knows that Shaq is the “Big Clown-inator”. He played well, but his legacy was tarnished by the childish fuel with Kobe and the last 5 years of his career, which can only be described as “quadruple GARBAGE”.

Come on, Kurt Helin, you are a basketball writer and you make a comeback with reserves, when you should clearly know what that comment meant about “great players” and rings.

Wilt can’t even fill up one hand with rings, but he is the greatest center to ever play the game. And we all know what Bill did, but Bill is 4th or 5th best all time.

Bynum is light years ahead of Howard on offense. The only thing that makes Howard better is he plays more. Take away Bynums injuries, and I take him over Howard in a heartbeat.

I don’t like Shaq, but that is not what he said. He was talking about a true big man (center). If Howard played 15 years ago, he would have been a power forward. The game has just changed; that is what I really think Shaq was getting at.

after last nights game I think any bynum is better talk should have been put to rest.I am sure shaq and laker fans will have some kind of excuse but the bottom line is howard destroyed him.bynum for howard only works for the lakers and if I were Orlando I call howard’s bluff. they may get nothing if he leaves but will he really leave all that money behind? here is the one case where a player can say it is not about the money and prove it. if you mean that then go ahead and leave 30 million behind to play someplace else.

Yeah, and Shaq’s DONE. He was done when he went to CLE, but decided to pitiful himself through a few more years.
Has Howard had the benefit of a Wade or Kobe? Did Shaq win a damn thing w/o another HoF teammate? Here’s a hint: NO, and NO.
If you want to compare a retired player’s accomplishments to someone still playing, in the prime of his career, you go son. Me? I prefer intelligence and common sense. I’d recommend both, but you’re obviously happy with stupidity and tunnel vision.

@glink123 so you would take a tall,goofy,broken down young center with bad knees,no athleticism, and a short but long history of injuries over some one that is the opposite of. almost everything i said???If you said yes you must be bynum or a complete dummy.Thats the problem with people 7ft and taller they have short careers because of their abnormal size.

Howard has peaked offensively as an NBA player. He’s lazy. He refuses to spend any time working on his game. Refuses to practice free-throws. Refuses to develop a mid-range game. He’s aloof. He’s Ben Wallace. Rebounds. Blocks shots. Has a deadly offensive game from 5 feet and closer. Bynum, however, is still learning the game. He’s healthy for the first time in his career. I’d take Bynum before Howard any day. Bynum has heart.

Are you kidding me? there are hundreds of guys that are still playing and not very many of them in the realm of Shaq. So I would say that your argument is pretty stupid. He’s still playing…..and? He might win an MVP he might win a championship he might be one of the 50 greatest players ever…….difference is, Shaq is all of those things, not too mention a hall of famer. There’s no “might” to any of that buddy. Dwight can hope and wish that he has a career like Shaq…..you know what they say, you can crap in one hand and wish in the other, see which one fills up first……..clown.
