Quote of the Day: Dwight Howard’s new trade destination

Jan 18, 2012, 8:45 AM EDT

Dwight Howard AP

“Sources say Dwight Howard is signing with the Harlem Globetrotters.”

—Dwight Howard to the Orlando SentinelHoward had been asked about the report the Los Angeles Clippers were on his trade destination list, Howard responded with a “no” and then his standard line about him being on the Magic right now and that is all that matters. Things like this and the fact the Magic are 10-3 give those fans hope they can keep him in town. Good luck with that. The Clippers are not likely as a landing spot only because a better deal than DeAndre Jordan, Eric Bledsoe, Mo Williams and a pick will come along, either at the deadline or this summer (and that’s the best the Clippers could do).

“either at the deadline or this summer”

This summer he is an unrestricted free agent right? Meaning Orlando would probably get nothing for him this summer.

Their only hope would be a sign-and-trade with an over-the-cap team. But at least one team on his wish list (Mavs) will be enough under the cap to sign him outright.

Howard has to opt out of his deal this summer to become a free agent. He is using that threat as leverage, but a sign-and-trade is still a very likely outcome.

If the magic aren’t getting Blake griffin then they better not trade with then. deandre Jordan and clowns will not win anything. The magic would become the Pre Griffin clippers. Awful.
